hey all,
over the last 19 weeks iv lost 46lbs and still got another 46 to go! im now weighing in at 240lbs and im 5'11 aged 28, my calorie intake is between 1200-1600 per day!
well im so confused over all this calories burned rubbish!! i do half hour on my exercise bike at 20mph every morning then again every evening.... the calories burned calculator that i input my times to on My fitness pal app says i burn 678 calories per session but the bike its self says i only burn 200!! iv come to a stand still the last week and havent lost anything! i havent changed how im eating and now im adding in a mid day 30 minute exercise on my cross trainer/exercise bike which that alone only says i burn 150 calories in half an hour!!
Are the calories burned on fitness pal app actually accurate??
can using the same piece of equipment change the way you loose weight?
advice please!!!!

    1. Have you changed your weight on MFP since you've lost weight? If you haven't, that can affect the burn given.
    2. If the machine is not asking you your weight, at the minimum, it's probably not completely accurate, although it does know your intensity level.
    3. MFP is also just an estimate. I would, personally, not eat back all of the calories MFP says I burned since it could be an over estimate.
    4. If you're not using a HRM, you won't really get an accurate number. That being said, you've lost weight without one, and I lost my weight (and gained some back, oops) without one.
    5. I use an average of MFP, the machine and another site to get the number I "count" as my burn.
    6. Weight loss is not linear. Especially as you get smaller, the weight will come off slower. And, it's normal to lose 1-2 pounds 1 week, then nothing for 2 weeks, then 2 pounds the next, etc.

I would go read some of the blog posts by Azdak. This one might be a good place to start:

He's got lots of helpful information that will allow you to figure out what best covers your particular situation.

Personally, I get the MFP defaults then knock off 15% before I even enter it into my diary. That way, I'm never eating back more than 85% of whatever I supposedly burned without having to do complicated math at the end of the day :) So far, it's working!

    Thanks for your replies,
So today for example I've eaten 1545 calories and MFP has calculated uv burned 2100 calories, I never intend on eating to make up that amount.
Yesterday I ate 1435 calories and burned 1300 calories with the exercise bike
With those as an estimate of what my daily intakes are, should I still be loosing weight?

    It's all very confusing!!
