Hi there. I'm 33 and have recently been diagnosed with an under active thyroid. I'm on levothyroxine and now my levels are sorted they have advised me to exercise a lot to shift my 3st weight gain!!!!

Looking for supportive friends and constructive criticism too. I have a serious addiction to chocolate and cheesecake lol.

Main thing is I am serious this time round and need to do this.

Look forward to getting to know you all xx

I am getting back on the weight loss effort, good to have some company. Even though the meds help, it seems harder to lose wt. in my 30s and with the underactive thyroid. Chocolate and snacks are my addictions!

hey..i too had had same problem but it went away as soon as my boy was born(it was gestational)...i think what help me was yoga..yes with medications yoga helps a lot...also i take brazil nuts for selenium as it plays a major role in controlling thyroid...ask ur doctor though ...i take them because i want to control my thyroid ..(also because my body is already resistant to losing weight easy ..so cant afford thyroid again)...i know its hard but u can try some these tips...no harm in doing yoga or eating 2 nuts a day...

I'm 30 and have Hashimoto's. It's been a struggle getting my weight back down. The meds do help though. Feel free to add me :)

So I'm not hypo, but might as well be. Hyper with surgery or rai looming and can't seem to lose a pound to save my life. I could use some accountability too, ESP. With my sweet tooth. Feel free to add me! :)

    Hi,

I'm 29 with hypothyroidism and pcos. I'm also on levothyroxine. I started my journey 7 weeks ago and have lost 16 almost 17 lbs so far. I have a dr appointment next week to see if this lifestyle change is going to help (I can already tell it is by the weightloss). Feel free to add me if you want.

I also have hypo. Actually pretty much my entire family has it! I've been on medication for years now. As long as you stay on your medication you should be good. I lost about 30lbs while on medication just by exercising.

If you get off of the medication your weight will come back. Make sure you get regular checkups. Cause even if you're on medication you might not be taking enough. Most of the time your doctor should do a TSH test every 6 months.
  • Hello to EVERYONE on here! I am new as well! 31 years old, 4 kids :-) I recently found out I have type II diabetes so I am trying to watch carbs & sugars (HARD!) as well as overall calories and everything else! I for sure need the motivation and the accountability. As I have tried in the past, pre-237lbs to loose and it never worked, so now that I am even bigger than I was at my previous diet/exercise attempts, it is HARDER but I am way more serious this time! 4 kids to live and be healthy for! I am tired of feeling tired, ankles hurt all the time, I hate going out, I just hate myself sometimes, I cry about it! LOL! It all just seems hopeless at times. BUT this time, I am working with a nutritionist who is a great friend and I feel so much more empowered and knowledgeable about it this time around! :-)

I have Hashimoto's, which many people do of course, but it still isn't well known. I became profoundly sick in 2010, but I have no idea how long I was subtly ill. It changed my life. I lost my job as a professional truck driver due to fatigue. I wound up taking radiation to kill my thyroid in 2011 and have been taking the long climb back since then. Previous to the full-blown Hashi's, I had lost 160 lbs. over 12 years. I was 158 lbs with lots of energy. In less than a year, I was at 241 lbs with no energy. I am now around 214, if my scale isn't broken. Have to buy a new scale! LOL However, how I lose weight now has changed for me and sometimes, I have to expect a sudden turn I can't control. Water comes on and stays on, so I have to fight with my sodium intake. I wear diabetic knee hose on bad days. Thisis along with a massive list of symptoms and other weirdness. I know how you all feel. *big group hug* Right now, my hair is falling out in clumps and it's because Hashi's is an autoimmune condition. My numbers are good, my dosage of levo is good, but since my immune system can no longer attack my thryoid, it's decided my hair follicles, salivary glands, and lacrimal glands will do for now.

Despite this, I'm doing pretty good. I'm nearly out of college with a Bachelors and thinking of nursing or PA school. Some days I still low-crawl out of bed, my tongue swells, and my ankles are huge, but I feel much better than I did in 2010. Keep chipping away at it. Even if your weight isn't going away at the moment, a healthy diet helps so many of the allies your body has left to it. It will eventually start to go away, though! Mine did. It's slow and it's taken almost two years, but I lose about a pound a week now. Cheers! Here's to all of us becoming well and healthy!!! :)

PS. Same chocolate and cheesecake addiction you have. It helps to plan about every two or three weeks to go to the store, buy a single slice of cheesecake, and enjoy it thoroughly! Otherwise, I buy healthy foods with a chocolate base or make them for more frequent consumption. :) Eat in as much moderation as I can manage, of course!!! LOL
  • Hi, I have an under active thyroid, I was diagnosed when I was pregnant with my daughter, been on levothyroxine for around 3.5years, I struggled at first to lose weight just after having her, I joined a local slimming club and lost a lot of weight, but had to really work hard with exercise to lose the weight. I fell back into my old eating habits last christmas and my weight has been up and down since, but I have decided to stop and get back on track again starting today.
I have just had my blood taken due to feeling really not myself and other symptoms turns out I was on too much so my dose has been lowered.
I hope I can achieve the weight loss goal, and also wish you all luck with your weight loss goals :)
