Any ladies with Type 1 diabetes out there?

Hi, I'm looking to connect with any other ladies who have type 1 diabetes. I have had diabetes for 30 years (I'm now 35.) I've seen pretty much everything. I'm married with two kids. I wear an insulin pump and understand the frustrations of trying to exercise, eat right, lose weight and balance my blood sugar. I've successfully lost weight in the past and now (after having kids) need to drop a significant amount of weight again. Is anyone out there dealing with the same things?

Hello! I am also a Type 1 diabetic, for 22 years now. I am 32 years old and trying to lose around 100 lbs! I'm going to add you, it will be nice to have someone that can relate to that extra challenge!

How do you like your pump? I have thought about it several times but keep chickening out! I take Humalog injections with my meals and lantus in the AM and PM. I haven't been great about keeping track of my blood sugar which I am trying to work on as well. I think its great that you have 2 kids! Did everything go OK with that? I have been pretty much scared out of having kids for fear of complications. I love hearing about type 1 diabetics who were successful with that!

Actually my pump (Minimed Paradigm) has brought me a ton of freedom! It's really not as scary as you might think. It allows me to basically not have to eat on a regular meal schedule if my day gets crazy or eat a little extra dessert once-in-a-while. :) I can also dial it back if I know that I'm going to be exercising, which I know is pretty much impossible with injections. I did injections for 21 years and have been on the pump for 14. To me there is no comparison. :)

Don't feel like you are alone struggling to keep your blood sugar under control. It's hard (understatement). My last A1c was high for me so I'm working on getting that down again.

Thanks about the kids. My first pregnancy went fairly well. I did have some blood pressure issues in the end, My second was a little harder because I had a harder time keeping my blood sugar controlled, which is really important. I ended up having a C-section with each baby. But they are healthy and happy kiddos (1 and 3)--couldn't imagine life without them! Don't let fear keep you from that great joy! :)

Have a great night. Stick to it!

Hello! I'm 47 and have been a Type I for 25 years. I would like to lose 25 - 30 lbs. I have not been logging my meals every day, but I'm sure it would help if I did. I only recently discovered this forum and have not added any friends - I'm not even sure I know how to do that! Are you currently recording all of your foods? I'd love to have a diabetic friend, but not sure how to add you, or would you add me? Thanks for the help.

    Hey there!

I'm on the younger side (18) and I've had diabetes for only 10 years. I also have a minimed pump! :)

How did you lose weight with diabetes last time?

Hello! I'm a type 1, too, but I'm a baby when it comes to diabetes because I've only had it since 2011 (I'm 30 now). So I'm still learning. We've tried around a bit with the different kinds of insulin but right now I take a fast-working insulin (NovoRapid) with my meals and Lantus at night.

Since I'm so new to diabetes, I don't have much of advice to give. But everyone feel free to add me if you wanna share the ups and downs of this journey. :)

    Hi Ladies!

I've been a type 1 Diabetic for well over 20 years now (I'm 30) and have definitely struggled with the obstacles of weight loss, blood sugar control, irregular eating schedules, etc. and am anxious to use this site as a means of better tracking and organizing my journey to better health. I am looking forward to being a mother in the near future and am definitely looking to better my health (mind, body, spirit) before taking on that blessing. I have considered using the pump in the past, but have always resorted back to just staying on insulin injections, I did however hear that the pump may be a better option, when planning for pregnancy. Any feedback on how you did with both??? Thanks in advance.

I really had to go very low-carb, adjusting my insulin as I went. I also worked out 5-6 days a week, alternating lifting and cardio. I was also single so I had a lot of time to focus on getting healthy.

Hi! The pump was definitely a great option for me during my pregnancy. Much easier to make adjustments when I needed them. If you're serious about taking care of yourself and becoming pregnant, don't let anyone tell you to avoid becoming a mom because of your diabetes. Be sure to have a specialist OBGYN. They're very used to dealing with diabetes and pregnancy. The most important aspect of being pregnant (as far as complications for your baby) is your blood sugar. It's super important to keep it really tightly controlled. This is hard, and I had my struggles with it, but it's doable. Being a mom is the great joy of my life!

I've been Type 1 for the past 38 years. I'll be 40 this year, with a 3 year old. I've been on a Medtronic Paradigm pump for the past 8 years and I would never go back. It gives me so much freedom to do what I went when I want and eat anything I want. As a result, I put on about 40 pounds. Now, I'm working to lose that weight. I've lost 23 of the pounds and am really trying to change my lifestyle. Please feel free to add me as a friend.

Hello! I am a type 1 diabetic and have been for 25 years. I am currently 27. Diabetes definitely adds another issue when it comes to exercising and eating right. I have had a lot of issues trying to figure out how to accommodate exercising. Some days it works, and many it does not.
