Plateau after one and a half weeks.

I am very new to MyFitnessPal but I have used a similar program to this before. I lost seven pounds my first week and then gained one and have not budged for about a week now. I am sticking to my 1200 limit in calories and I am walking for exercise. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Didn't expect to plateau yet. Anyone have any words or wisdom? I am so frustrated.

1.5 weeks isnt a plateau. But 1200 isnt enough for most people, especially with little to lose. What are your stats and do you do anything other than walking?

If your limit is 1200 calories, I am hoping you are eating at least your exercise calories back. Have you considered stepping up your exercise regime and doing other activities as well? Walking is great and all, but you should be challenging yourself more.

I am eating my calories back from exercies. I am 5'1" and 154 pounds. I have two kids, which makes it really hard to find time for myself but I am making the best of it. I know I am new to the program, but this doesn't seem right.

It's actually not uncommon. Give it some time and you'll start losing again. Just stick with the plan.

I am def stepping it up compared to what I was before starting this. I have to stick to low impact exercising due to a foot injury. I am not just walking, I am walking as fast as my short legs will take me. example is 2 miles in 30 mins. That is a lot for me. I am also doing some strength training like planks and squats.

You pounds in one week is a lot. I'm not surprised your body isn't eager to drop more right away - you've already averaged almost. 2lb loss per week this month.

And I agree...I don't think this qualifies as a "plateau" after one week. It just seems like the bar was set unrealistically high that first week and it not continuing is disappointing. Totally understandable, but it's a marathon, not a sprint. Don't let yourself get so down so soon or you run the risk of running out of steam after just a few weeks.
Give yourself time. If you REALLY find out you aren't dropping weight I'd consider upper your calories.
  • i am no expert and this is just from my experience but... i think if you stay on a certain amount of calories your body will get used to it so to spike up MY metabolism (again this is just from my experience) for one day ill eat a surplus..or my TDEE to get my metabolism back on track. this is NOT a cheat day or anything... you should still eat healthy..just more? thats wut worked for me...i was hesitant to put this up bc i didnt want to give false advice but..it did work for me :/ good luck!

It sounds like you may need to adjust your expectations. Give it some time and only weigh yourself once a week.
