I did look at newbies about exercise calories by banks. Honestly, it's too long and overwhelming for newbies like me. I like the simple and clear explanation. I signed up and said my daily calories is 2100 then I put in walking exercise and now my calories is 2294 today? I want to lose weight not to maintain it. Please be bear with me, I'm trying to understand? I have seen other sites or even heard this, to lose weight, suggest to have -500 calorie deifect a day?

Thanks Amy

MFP already calculates in your deficit and expects you to eat back your exercise calories. That said w/2100 calories as your base, I wouldn't be too concerned with eating back the 294 exercise calories. Your choice - eat all or some or even none. If your base was really low like 1200 I'd say definitely eat them all.

MFP sets you at a deficit..whether you exercise or not. If you exercise, you have increased your deficit...possibly to unhealthy levels. So onMFP you are expected and allowed and encouraged to eat back those calories. You're still at a deficit, not maintainance. Read the pinned threads about how this works for a more complete explanation.

So I eat at 2100 cal everyday not to worry about eat extra calories from exercises? It'll be adjusted once losing weight, etc..

Yes, you should eat back at least some of your exercise calories. I'd say at least half. Even if you ate back every single calorie, MFP has set your calorie intake based on the info you entered when you signed up. Your weight, your activity level, exercise you're planning on completing everyday...etc. If you set your profile up to say that you're here to lose weight, then the calories are set for you to lose weight...not to maintain. And once you start losing, and your tracking your weight loss on this site, at some point MFP will automatically adjust the amount of calories allowed each day.
