I am a type 1 diabetic of 13 years and I found myself over the years GAINING and GAINING. I reached 190 lb two and a half years back and lost it and reached 170 lb in a year. So that was a year and a half ago.
But that's it.
I fluctuate from 165 to 175 but I can NOT lose any more.
I eat a healthy diet RELIGIOUSLY I tell you, vegetable and berry smoothies for my meals at least once a day, oatmeal, nuts and vegetables, only whole grains, no pastas, red meat is rare. Sea food once a week, poultry is common. Been doing this diet consistently for a year.
My work outs are at least an hour long, about 5 days a week average. I do INSANITY and at LEAST 45 minutes of cardio and then weights.
People look at me and tell me I should lose weight. And I should eat healthy. I have the body of someone who never gets off the couch.
I am sad, frustrated, and alone. Someone help me!!!!

Have you tried lowering your carbs, that helped me.0

Foodscale and start logging.
HRM if you can afford and start logging exercise.
Play with the amount of exercise calories you eat to find what works.
And probably bring your calorie target up from 1200.0 -
I agree with limiting your carbs, even if they are from whole grains and fruit. Talk to your doctor about where he wants your carb levels.
Also, what kind of insulin do you take and how do you take it? Losing weight with diabetes is hard work!0 -
I don't eat many carbs, as I said I probably have grains once a day at most and it's maybe half a cup. I limit myself to maybe 2-3 servings of fruit a day.
I eat more than 1200 cal, maybe 1600.
I stopped logging because I am consistent with what I do, I used to log like crazy every day.
I use humalog.0 -
Also when I asked my doctor how many carbs I should eat, he said 60 carbs PER MEAL
Which I think is stupid
I am usually below 30 a meal (main meals)0 -
& I use a HMR when I work out...0

Do you check your glucose levels after every meal? Do you know if you're insulin resistance? If you're insulin resistance, you're eating too many carbs. Your glucose meter can guide you on how many you should be eating if you don't have one. You want your glucose levels to be under 100 most of the day or around 20 hours of a day.

I think that dr assisted weight loss and perhaps exploring nutrition with an actual nutritionist is in order. Obviously somethings off here. Either you diet is not as healthy as you think it is and your sneaking junk in there somewhere or perhaps your portions of healthy food is too large...
Or...
Nutrient levels are off somewhere and you need to figure out chemically if there is something holding you back. I have friends who are diabetic and as long as they eat healthy and put in the work, the loose weight. So try seeing what a dr and a nutritionist can do for you. You can do it! Good luck.0 -
I'm type 1 diabetic and I'm losing weight fine. I think your probably consuming more calories than you think. And as for carbs, I believe that it's all about calories in VS calories out so it shouldn't matter how many carbs your getting as long as you are getting the proper nutrition.0

I've been type 1 for 20 years, and in the last year have lost 40kg.
I did low carb and counted calories.
I weighed and logged everything before I ate it and only took enough insulin to cover the carbs - taking into account exercise.
I now take less than half of the insulin I was on a year ago, and battle more with low blood sugars than highs.0 -
I am seeing my Dr and a nutritionist coming soon. You may be right, but when I come on here to update MFP to see if I am on track, I am pretty good about keeping calories!
I wonder if hypothyroidism is an issue as it runs in my family.0 -
I think that Type 1 really can make it much harder to lose weight. Your metabolism is not like that of people with a functioning pancreas.
It's great that you're so diligent already! How are your A1Cs? If your sugars are really well controlled, but you're still not losing lbs, maybe you are eating too many calories still. Thyroid is worth looking into too.
My partner is Type 1. He will do great all day but then if he gets a low in the night he just gobbles down sugar en masse until he feels better. So, basically, all his careful eating goes out the window from a single low. It's really sucky :sick:0 -
My A1C are a little higher than recommended currently, but I do try to maintain them.
That's what I was told, we don't produce the proper hormones or enzymes for faster metabolism (apparently?)
Yes when I get too low on blood sugar I experience that horrid *binge* eating all diabetics have!! But it isn't a common occurence for me.
Some days when I am extremely active I could drink almost 1000 calories of juice to just try and keep my levels up! But again this is maybe once a year type of a deal.0
