Blisters HELP !

How do you guys prevent/ treat them especially runners ?

I ran 3 miles friday then again on saturday now I have 4 of them on the inside of my left foot. My run on saturday was supposed to be 4.5 miles but I was in agony so had to stop at 3. I need to go for a run today and not all of them have dried out yet what should I do :S

I have proper running trainers that were fitted in a running store
I have proper running socks

I do not get blisters often but I am constantly upping my mileage at the moment to prepare for a 10k race which is why I think im getting them.

I have heard a few tricks such as certain tape (no idea which is best), and using vaseline but how do you guys cope?

Thank you

Even if you we're fitted at a running store, it sounds like you have the wrong shoe! It happened to me with my first pair from the running store, I had my gate analyzed and everything but it was not the right shoe! I ended up having to go back and rechecked and I love my new shoes, instantly no blisters! Until then, you can use aquaphor to dry the old blisters out and moleskin to cover them up. Don't ever pop a blister, the skin is a natural barrier for the bacteria growing in your shoes. It the blisters are too painful you can take a sterilized needle and puncture it, draining the fluid, but never ever rip off the skin! Good luck

The only way to avoid them is to have shoes that fit properly, especially as you start ramping up your mileage. You may have the right kind of shoe, just one that doesn't fit you well.

Thank you for your advice. To be honest I have had these shoes for quite a few months and they have given me blisters on 2 occasions :S can't really afford a new pair at the moment but I might look into getting some different shoes when I can afford them :P Just hope they get me through my first 10k :P Thanks :)

Once you have blisters, the only thing I can recommend is blister plasters. They cover and protect the blister and tend to remain on area you've applied the plaster to until the blister has healed. As @KristiRTT has said, don't deliberately burst a blister, otherwise you leave yourself open to an infection which can take longer than the blister to actually heal.
