Does anyone else find that carbs make them grumpy?

I've recently noticed a recurring pattern, whenever I eat a big bowl of pasta or rice, I feel bloated, tired and grumpy afterwards.
Me and my SO usually eat pasta every Monday eve and it just drags my mood down after I've eaten it.

Does anyone else find this?
The pasta that we eat isn't wholewheat - maybe that has something to do with it?

Or maybe it's just because it's Monday

Any thoughts?

I only get grumpy if I get hit on the head by a bowl of pasta

Carbs do make me tired and I know if I'm tired I can get grumpy for sure. So yes. I prefer not to eat a lot of cabs at lunch because of this and I don't eat breakfast anymore due to doing IF so that isn't an issue.

Guys generally try and steer clear of any question of this nature from females but maybe it's the combination of white pasta and mondays, hard to say.

Yes. They make me tired, grumpy, and eventually they make me HUNGRY. I really limit my starchy carbs, and if I do eat them, I eat them in moderation and with a LOT of protein. I find that whole wheat pasta served al dente (not completely soft) is a little kinder and so is Dreamfields Low Carb pasta.

You're probably aware of this but just in case ...

To the OP, maybe worth investigating an intolerance?

bloated? ask your doctor about testing for gluten intolerance. Or try experimenting - not eating flour based carbs for a while and see if you feel better.

I don't have a problem with carbs but my nephew went trhough this (interestingly enough, he tested negative for intolerances but believes he has *something* because he was feeling awful when he ate anything with grains and feels much better without).

No. But afterward I sometimes experience carb-eater's remorse.

    Hell yeah :grumble:
Anything that jacks up my blood sugar makes me grumpy :ohwell:

Seriously though, you don't have to be Celiac to be intolerant of carbs. It could be the amount consumed, it is most likely though, if you carry weight around your middle & have family members with T2D or Insulin Resistance that it's blood sugar imbalance.

Since being diagnosed myself with T2, my mom & husband have both cut carbs drastically. I keep telling them it's NOT contagious but they are not convinced :blushing: I'm guessing that thanks to sound bites and fear mongering even though they know better, it has crept into their consciousness that gaining weight = diabetes, though this is proving less and less widely held, as conventional wisdom gives way to new hypotheses as to the evolution of this condition....well, that and because we all ate the same things and were (still are) very health conscious.

Both report the same, independent of each other since my mom & DH don't usually talk together.

No bloated feeling, no symptoms of slow digestion or decreased intestinal motility, feeling lighter, having much more energy etc.

It's important to note that neither had complained of any of these things before, so it was interesting to hear how MY diabetes was affecting them positively  There's that silver lining

Anyhow, point is, why not decrease & see how you feel. We're all different variations of the same species and contrary to popular lemmings, not everyone functions well on your typical USDA 'healthy diet' of 'healthy whole grains'.

Good luck on your journey :drinker:
