Re-evaluating your goal weight....

I'm closing in on my goal weight (lost 20 of 25 kg and smaller than I thought I'd be at this weight) but I'm starting to think about revaluating my goal weight even lower. It's almost a 'how low can I go and still look like I want to' thing. My goal body type is athletic- curvy if that makes sense and I'm nearly there now, but wondering if I should wait to get to goal and re-evaluate then or psych myself into a lower GW now.
Anyway, mostly looking for anecdotal stories from people who have reached GW or are getting close to it and wondering if they underestimated how well they could do here

It's your body, you do what you want. My original goal weight was lower than my current one, but I'll adjust down again if I'm not satisfied with it.0

I have had a series of GWs, mostly because I was too scared to think of anything lower. I started at 140-145kg and my original goal weight was 100kg. Then when I got there and realised it wasn't scary to be smaller, I reevaluated to 90kg. Then I got more confident and reevaluated to 80. Then I thought, "why come this far and be JUST outside of the healthy BMI?" so I reevaluated to just inside the healthy weight range for my height (77kg).
When I got closer to that healthy weight range, I made my final GW decision and have made a deal with my partner. I'm going as low as 75kg and that's it. I'm stopping there. I needed to make this a hard and fast "rule" because otherwise I was scared that I was just going to keep dropping and dropping and then it would be scary about how low I would force myself to go.
I made a deal with my partner that I will get to 75 kg and stop and then if I drop, she is to take over the cooking so that I can't keep dropping. I am happy with that decision. I plan to maintain for at least 3 months and celebrate with a scuba dive for the first time in my life. After that, we can have a serious discussion but I feel that after such a break from losing weight that I will be in a better position to make decisions about whether to stay around that weight or to drop a couple more kg. All I know is that I DO NOT want to see a 6 in front of my weight. I WILL focus on toning more in that time.
I think you need to do what's right for you. You don't need to aim for the bottom of the healthy weight range for your height (I'm not suggesting that's what you are doing). Good luck.0 -

Yep this is it. I've been 15 kg lower than now and looked like a barbie doll and hated it. I don't agree with or believe in BMI but part of me is intrigued as to what that would look like on me. I do have a self-starve history but I believe I'm healthy and in control, it's more just curiosity.
Thanks - and well done!0 -
Perception is skewed by the norm in many 1st world scenarios. A guy with 25%+ BF might be considered thin in some areas, and can get negative feedback ("you'll be too skinny!") when attempting to lose weight. It's pretty ridiculous.
Anyway, a woman coming in around 24-25 BMI can most likely lose weight fairly easily and healthily, if desired. Goal should be to be healthy and happy with the way you look.0 -

I don't believe in BMI. But thanks0 -
I think the goal should be health and fitness, not 'how low can I go', especially if you have a history of self starving.0

I'm within 5 pounds of my goal weight. I don't care about the number at this point; I'm focused on how I look in the mirror, particularly muscle definition. Improved fitness and strength is my primary goal now. Once I hit that target, I'll show myself here at MFP as at GW. If I'm heavier than today or lighter, it doesn't matter. It really will be how fit I am and how that translates to my looks.0

Well, pick whatever function of height and weight you like. If a woman is at the top end of male normal, she's extremely unlikely to be low body fat. Meaning it's probably safe to continue to lose weight if desired. Whereas you'll want to be a lot more cautious at the lower end of the scale, since the drive may be a self-perception error.0 -

though that fails to take breasts etc into consideration. Mine aren't small and that definitely affects my scale number, which is why the higher end of 'safe' is more appropriate for me. I have some muscle tone too.
I'm being careful and I'm certainly not getting to the point of too thin, nor do i want to. More just working out how i get to a 'finish line' i feel happy with0 -

my ED was never about weight, it was about control, and i am in control, which is why I feel safe about challenging myself with this. I def have health and fitness goals too - i've smashed them out of the park and reset them already

I've lowered my goal weight a couple of times. I just don't look like how I want to yet. I went off of myfitnesspal for a few months and maintained at 110 (I'm only 5'1) and now I am back to lose the last 10 pounds. Just make sure you are in the healthy weight range and are maintaining a healthy lifestyle.0

When I started (~180 lbs), I was very roughly aiming for 150, overshot it, and have been sitting around 125-130 for 3 years.
I had a reasonable deficit (TDEE-200 from food, with prob another -200 from daily exercise) - never felt deprived, the focus was on consistency, it just happened as a matter of course.0 -

This.
And this...
My "goal weight" was initially 135. Then another 5 came off pretty easily. Then I thought I'd aim for 126, and got there, but over the next year and a half, I got more involved with strength training, and realized just how little that number actually meant. I'm currently at about 139-142, and wearing the same jeans I was at 126.0
