Beginner Runner, Looking for Friends

Hi! I'm fairly new here, and I'm looking for some friends. I enjoy running for fun/fitness--I'm trying to lose 10-ish pounds through running, weight training, and eating right. I just started running last fall and got up to 5 miles in March, but then I got pretty sick and seem to have lost most of my stamina/speed since then. I struggle with 3 miles now, but I'm going to keep at it and get back on track. Any other beginning runners out there looking for friends? Or more experienced runners willing to share tips/advice with a noob if she has questions?

I suppose I qualify as a beginner too. Completed c25k last fall and again this spring and then ran in two 5ks. I regularly run about three 5ks per week. So far I'm more interested in improving my speed than going to 10k, but maybe they go hand in hand? Also, I live in the south and have recently resorted to treadmill running because it's hot and humid and I'm not a morning runner.
So far the key for me to complete 3 miles any given workout is to take it easy. I start at a slower pace for first half mile, then increase it until at least mile 2. Then depending how I feel stick with that pace or slow back down to original pace. However I also really need to pick up an interval training plan sometime.0 -
I began running last January. I could hardly run 30 seconds without feeling like I was going to die. I had double knee surgery the year prior to that and was overweight. I kept running and tried to strengthen my knees and build some stamina. I ran my first 5k straight through in May of last year and then my first 10K straight through in July of last year. I was signed up for my first half marathon for November . My knees were really hurting so I started doing the Galloway method. I run for 4 minutes walk for 1 minute and repeat. I ran my first half marathon this way with a finish time of 2:25. I was very happy with the way my body was handling the running this way so I have continued to run like that ever since.
Was on strict rest from Dec-Feb of this year due to medical reasons. Since then I have been trying to get myself back up to speed and ready for another half marathon in November. I am currently back up to 4 miles and officially starting my training. I run outside 2 days a week and I run on the treadmill 1 day a week. I do circuit training 3 days a week. 1 day rest.
I find it crazy how fast you can lose what took you months to get. :-) Welcome back.0
