I am finding that I am focusing on the scale number rather than the health side. How can I change my focus?

Make new goals. Running goals, lifting goals, goals for hitting your macros, goals for going to the gym __ times a week, etc. Track progress through fitness goals, measurements, how clothes fit, and progress photos.

Your new into the journey. Relax, it will take time to adjust to the reality of your goals. You are highly motivated and anxious for change right now. This happens to all of us. The scale is not a bad tool, but stepping on too often is rarely helpful.

I actually left my scale in another state when I moved for my summer job. If I have it with me I can't seem to stop myself from weighing obsessively a couple times a day, then getting discouraged when all my hard work doesn't have instant results. So I'm just focusing on being healthy for the next 3 months, counting calories to stay accountable for what I eat and buying/cooking healthy food. I started exercising without worrying about seeing a jump on the scale from muscle gain and water retention, I don't get discouraged and binge...so far its been worth it. I'm planning on peeking when I'm at friends house for the 4th, but I'm not going to put too much stock in the number since its a very small snapshot of where I'm at. If you live with other have one of the hide the scale from you and only pull out once a week to weigh in. If you live by yourself, give it to a friend for safekeeping. Its hard to quit obsessing over the number but it makes the whole lifestyle change part so much easier, I promise!

Put away the scale. Set other fitness goals.
