Ok so I recently began to eat healthier and exercise regularly, and I feel like my mom is trying to sabotage me... she keeps buying takeout (really greasy and big portions) bringing me chips and ice cream everyday, and pushing me to drink soda and eat unhealthy food. Part of the reason why I want to be healthy is because she was diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure last year and it runs in the family. She hasn't wanted to change her lifestyle and I really feel like she wants to push it on me. I really need some advice on how to deal with her; today she bought a huge burrito and when I told her I didn't want it she got really offended. It's really hard for me. Any advice is welcome

If you live with your mom, it's time to start buying your own food. If she brings you food, you need to say "no". She can get offended all she wants. Just don't eat it. Difficult? Yes. However, at 23, you're more than old enough to make your own choices regarding what you eat, and buying your own food is the first step.0 -
I can understand how you feel. My mother doesn't try and sabotage me but she does bring fat foods around a lot or wants to go out to eat. She wants to lose weight too but when I try and motivate her or do something she says she doesn't care that she wants to eat or something to the effect so she will try and get me to eat as well I think it is a way of making her feel less guilty like if I do it too it isn't so bad. It is really hard to stay motivated with this but I just tell her when she does it to not bring it around me or not tell me about it. It helps with self control always having it around. I think you need to have a talk with your mom not when she is offering something because you don't want it to be a time she is upset, just sit down with her and tell her that you really need this that you want to do this to feel better about yourself and to be healthy that it would mean the world to you if she was there to support you that you need her to believe in you instead of trying to push you in the wrong direction tell her you appreciate it but if she wants to bring you food bring you a veggie plate or some fruit0

I agree with this You need to sit down and let her know that you are doing this and why you want to do it! Living at home does make it difficult when your mum is doing all the food shopping. Offer to go with her and steer her towards healthier options or as was already said buy your own groceries.0 -
Sounds like she's trying to use you to justify her own unhealthy habits to herself. Remind her that you are trying to change your lifestyle to stay healthy and take care of yourself and like was mentioned....buy your own food if she won't back off.0

can I suggest a nutrition class together? so you can learn how to help her address her health thru better diet, less expensive meds. Let her know you want her around a long time nad want to do this to that end. She may not go for it. Dont nag, just do it on yuor own. Maybe she will see. Good luck,ITs hard!0
