Quick Question on TDEE -20%

Hi All

Just a quick question please.

I am increasing from a VLCD to do TDEE -20%. My question is, do i need to work my way up to TDEE first and then come down 20%, or can i stop at my -20% figure?

Thanks in advance

I'd recommend slowly building up to maintenance before you do anything else connected to any kind of weight-loss.

I've been working for weeks and built it up to my -20% figure. I'm just wondering if i need to increase it slowly right up to TDEE and then stay there for a while before coming back down, or do i just stay here at -20%

No, stopping at TDEE - 20% should be fine, that said with less than 20lbs to lose you may want to go up to TDEE -15% so your deficit isn't too large.

Either way would be fine. If you do it all at once, you may find yourself 'gaining' a little (though I completely disagree with calling it fat gain, just 'newbie gains'). After giving the approach a few weeks, the newbie gains should drop and you should start losing at a nice, steady rate. I've been doing the TDEE-20% since I started back nearly 2 months ago. Some weeks I lose a pound, some weeks I don't lose at all, then find that I lose 2 pounds the next week to even out. It's an awesome approach and I never feel hungry.

Take your measurements religiously. Don't get discouraged. Don't log exercise calories. YOU CAN DO IT! :)

Thanks guys, i have been dealing with the gains (2lb) just coming up to -20%, because long term i trust it will work and i understand that patience is a virtue and i'm willing to deal with that. Just wasn't sure about whether or not a had to go the full way up for reset first.

Thanks for your help and positivity guys :-)
