"Once the stores of glycogen are depleted, then the body can begin to break down fats." isn't really correct as we all use a fair proportion of fat for fuel at rest or light activity levels.
The article makes a fair point generally, you will lose water from glycogen depletion and you will regain that on refeeding.0 -
It does make me wonder more about the role carbs play with making me fatter than I could be.0

The article was reasonable enough.
I also think a loss of unnecessary water should be classed as a victory. Obviously permanent fat loss is the glittering prize but a lo of people have an astonishing capacity to retain water. I am on of them. I am at a healthy weight so it is much easier to see from day to day how water retention, particularly around my abdomen, changes my appearance.
Lose of excess water makes you look better and feel lighter. Very little wrong with that...0 -
Some interesting bits - the loss of water as glycogen is used would explain why when I'm cycling for hours I seem to need to pee more than I'm drinking!
Seems to miss the point that the body tries to replace glycogen as soon as you start to deplete your stores, either from food or from fat. Like fat storage and use it's a continuous process that varies with supply & demand and not something that stops/starts.0 -
Apart from the numerous grammatical mistakes, it's a very encouraging article to anyone who wants to lose weight. It's basically saying: "Don't listen to the discouragers [it's a word now], just continue doing what you're doing. They (the discouragers) don't know better."
