Losing My Motivation

Hey Everyone!
I'm 19 years old, and I'm in college right now. Before this past summer, I was working hard to lose weight for about 2 months straight, which is longest and hardest I've ever worked to lose weight. I lost about 15 pounds. But during the summer, I lost motivation. I exercised every once in a while and my healthy eating was very sporadic. And as the summer continued, I gain about 5-6 pounds. Now, I want to begin my journey again, but I just feel depressed. I feel as if I'm starting over, but I guess my goal is to just continue to do the best I can.
If anyone has any encouraging advice or helpful information that would be awesome! Mostly, it just feels good to know there are people that can relate!

You CAN DO THIS! I started my journey, again, 9 months ago: I am 35 now, and look better than I did a couple years ago. To top it all off, my fiance & I noticed that those ugly stretch marks that had been growing are now going away. I've been working at this SLOWLY for the last 9 months, exercising, toning, firming & strengthening and just keeping my food intake balanced, and my reward is I fit into clothes I fit into when I was 10-15lbs thinner than I am now!
If I can do this at my age, and look better than I did when I was 19/20, I KNOW you can do this :flowerforyou:
If you would like, add me as a friend & anytime you need a pick-up, advise or motivation, I will be here (I also live with depression, but have conquered the beast by eating right, exercising & telling myself that I CAN do this, and, most importantly, I WILL do this

    Hey ^.^

You'll find LOTS of people on this site that can relate. I'm one of them. I've tried losing all my excess weight on and off for 20 years. This is the only time I've felt like I actually have a shot at it.

You have to remember, you're not really "starting over". You're just continuing. You've had a little setback but everyone has those. This site is the most amazing thing because it's filled with wonderful people who are all ready and willing to help you as well as recipes for things that have less calories and taste BETTER than the fattening stuff.

    You can do this!

Do you have a favorite pair of jeans, shorts or dress that you love and you can no longer fit into? That is what has always worked for me and I keep them in a visable place and try them on every so often. Just today I tried on some clothes that I have not been able to get into for 2 years and they fit!!!! What a wonderful feeling when that zipper goes up or that button closes! Good luck!

You can do it! I gained "baby" weight, 18 years ago with my 1st child...and I'm just now taking it (plus all the other weight I gained) off. Once you decide it's really what you want to do, and you are doing it for yourself, you will see the success that keeps you going.

Reward yourself for minigoals and it will keep you motivated to keep losing. I had to buy all new clothes to start the school year (I'm a teacher), and that was an awesome experience. It was great being able to buy clothes in the misses department instead of women's. I bought a couple of shirts that were just a little too tight, and I tried them on at least once a week. It's been 4 weeks since I purchased them...and now they fit!

If you can, buy yourself a new workout outfit...it will make you feel good about yourself while you are working out. I rewarded myself with new workout clothes last week and it made me feel great!

Stay positive, even when you have setbacks. Remember that there are lots of us with the same feelings. Setbacks are a part of the experience, but just put them behind you and keep moving forward. Good luck!!!
  • Thank you for all your comments! They're so encouraging! Day by day is the key, so that's what I'm gonna do! Good luck with all of your journeys! :)
