loose skin

Has any one lost a lot of weight, but didn't have a problem with loose skin? If so, was there something that you did to prevent it from happening?

Thanks for input.

  • At the beginning of a healthy eating regime/weight loss programme it is important to incorporate strength training or weight resistance training. As you reduce body fat you increase lean muscle mass and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training is a key component of overall health and fitness for everyone. Here are some points to consider:

"If you don't do anything to replace the lean muscle you lose, you'll increase the percentage of fat in your body," says Edward R. Laskowski, M.D., a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., and co-director of the Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center. "But strength training can help you preserve and enhance your muscle mass — at any age."

Therefore strength training also helps you:

    Develop strong bones.
By stressing your bones, strength training increases bone density and reduces the risk of osteoporosis.

    Control your weight.
As you gain muscle, your body begins to burn calories more efficiently. The more toned your muscles, the easier it is to control your weight.

    Boost your stamina.
As you get stronger, you won't fatigue as easily. Building muscle also contributes to better balance, which can help you maintain independence as you age.

    Manage chronic conditions.
Strength training can reduce the signs and symptoms of many chronic conditions, including back pain, arthritis, obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

    Sharpen your focus.
Some research suggests that regular strength training helps improve attention for older adults.

I trust the above information satisfies.

Moisturize! Make sure you're keeping yourself hydrated on the inside and moisturized on the outside. Hyaluronic acid is really good for the skin as well as the joints since it's naturally found there. Using a vitamin C serum will help to promote collagen too. You can make a body spray easily. All you need is
    1 cup water
1 tbsp l-ascorbic acid (found in the drugstore, it's just vitamin c powder)
Put them in a spray bottle and shake until the powder is dissolve. There you go. A vitamin c powder that is stronger than anything you'll find in the store. Make it fresh weekly because vitamin c oxidizes really fast. Just spritz yourself down after a shower and follow with your normal body lotion. Lotions absorb better when the skin's a bit damp anyways, so 2 birds with 1 stone.

I've been adding about a tbsp of rosehip oil to the body lotion I use at night too. Rosehip oil is really great source of Vitamin A (retinol) so it's great for cell turnover rate, moisture, can help tighten the skin cells by improving it's lipid barrier function due the fatty acids.

I do a body wrap, but that's for overall skin texture and health rather than for weight loss (because wraps DO NOT make you lose weight. I hate that all these new companies are claiming that). But I have noticed that my skin is tighter now. The kelp and caffeine really help to firm things up, which is really nice when you're losing weight. I have my recipe on a blog post I did.

Try dry body brushing. The benefit here is the increased blood flow. It'll also get off any extra dead skin cells so you products will absorb better. There are lots of good tutorials on youtube. The cheap brushes work just as well as the expensive ones.

Get some exfoliating gloves from the drugstore. Use them instead of a washcloth (every time you shower). This, again, will help with blood flow and get rid of dead skin so that products absorb better. You don't need to use a body scrub if you use these either.

Don't tan and use sunscreen. I know that everyone knows this, but I want to be thorough.

Hope this gave you some ideas!
