Gluten Free MFP Buddies!

Options
While I'm not new to MFP I am new to the whole Gluten Free thing. I have recently being put on a gluten free diet by my doctor and currently being tested for Celiac Disease and Wheat Allergies. I also suffer from other food allergies to top it all off. I'd love to have more friends on here to help support and guide me as well as give me some tips they have discovered along the way about living gluten free. Thanks :)

    Gluten and Dairy free here! I have intolerances as well- only been eting this way a little over a month now, but it has changed my life! My recipes aren't that exciting yet- but I feel that will come as I get bored with my more limited choices. Feel free to add me! :flowerforyou:

    Hi I would be happy to be your friend here. I have Celiac Disease so am gluten free as well. One thing in your post concerns me. IF your doctor is not testing for Celiac until AFTER you are gluten free you will very likely get a false negative. This can be very dangerous. The same thing happened to me. My doctor had me go gluten free prior to testing, then tested me, I got a false negative and was told I could not have Celiac disease and to go ahead and eat gluten again. One year later I developed severe anemia, and hypokalemia (low potassium) because of the undiagnosed Celiac disease and was SUPER sick. I went to a different dr who tested FIRST. Test came back positive as did the endo and now I am gluten free and feeling great. I would be very cautious of testing after going gluten free, the results could likely be meaningless.

    Good luck! (Don't want to scare you just want you to avoid any possible pit falls)

    Thanks for your replies! I will send you both a friend request now!

    @crmolle - I am also Dairy Free! :)

    @tlou5 - thanks for your concerns! I also apologise as my post wasn't very clear. I had blood work done on Thursday and went off the gluten after the blood test. I had read about gluten needing to be in your system when tests are done and knew I couldn't go off prior to the test. Also to be honest my GP also wasn't my first choice to deal with this issue as he is very text book and doesn't believe allergies etc can develop later in life but I couldn't get in to see my regular allergy specialist until the end of September :/

    Food allergies are really tough. I struggle some times however I am on a gf/df diet myself. I also have an added bonus of being allergic to soy and coconut with problems on others. It can be done though.

    Hi Eve23! Food allergies sure are tough! I am allergic to cow's dairy, eggs and sulphites which makes cooking and buying GF foods a little harder but you are right it can be done. I've done it once with the other allergies and I know with a bit of will power I can do it again. I will send you a friend request :)

    Another celiac. But you and I are already friends on here. As always ask away. The learning curve is severe and it still gets frustrating. I'm finding now most grains even GF and GF breads make me sick. Good times good times.

    I just started gluten free about 3 weeks ago .... Found some good and some not so good product out there. My blood test for celiac was inconclusive, but my upper endoscopy was negative. So I believe I have a gluten intolerance. I made a cauliflower pizza crust tonight for dinner(homemade pizza night) and it was Really good! Pleasantly surprised :)

    I've been gluten free for a few weeks also. I don't avoid it entirely. I'm sure I've gotten traces of it in sauces, etc. However, I've noticed a huge difference in relief of arthritis symptoms. I'm really amazed. I was going to have a slice of berry pie on July 4, but I was feeling so much better that I couldn't bear to eat it at this point ~ very weird behavior for me. There are a whole lot of foods you can eat. We went out to eat on Friday and I had a salad with fresh salmon ~ delicious.
