Lifting & HIIT

I'm trying to lose my last 30 pounds in the most efficient and healthy way possible, I've wasted too much time trying out things, that didn't work or didn't yield results as fast as they should.
This time I'm trying to reach my goal for good!
I'm thinking about doing some HIIT Cardio by using the Insanity Pure Cardio video 3 or 4 (if i'm feeling ambitious) times a week, along with weight training (stronglifts 5x5, basically compound movements, deadlifts, squats etc..) for the other 3 days. Does this sound reasonable? Will it produce the results I'm going for? (losing FAT?)

Sounds perfect if you ask me. But remember, all of this means nothing if your diet is poor. Losing fat is about being a caloric deficit. You can't out-train a bad diet.

Thank you! I'm already eating very healthy, high protein, low carb. All natural fruits, veggies, chicken, and shrimp, occasional brown rice.
Do you know what a reasonable weight loss goal is for a month of doing this?0 -
2-3 lbs a month ...... TDEE -10-15% seems to work pretty good ......0

There is no real way to measure how much you will lose in a month of doing this type of regime. When you first start you will lose a lot quicker - No question, but eventually it will start to slow right down. I lost 28lbs in just over 2 months and now my weight loss has started to slow right down, however this all depends on person to person, how tall you are, and how much you currently weigh. Just take measurements, record your weight and most importantly, pictures before you start and take new ones weekly - You will see change.
Just my added 2 cents - Try Intermittent Fasting (IF). This is where you only eat for 8 hours of the day (Say between 12pm - 8pm). This not only assisted me in losing fat, but it also helped my cravings for food, just make sure you keep drinking enough water.0 -

I've always wanted to try IF. I skip breakfast, I don't have a set time that I eat however. Do you do cardio or lift in a fasted state?0 -

Can you please explain? More in detail? I'm currently trying to eat 1200 cal per day.0 -

I do both - I do on average about 90 minutes of lifting, starting at about 5:30am and I always TRY to finish with about 10-15 mins of HIIT cardio on the treadmill. (Sometimes i run out of time as I have to get to work ).0 -

Agree with TDEE -10%, 1200 cals probably isn't enough with all the cardio0 -

MFP said I should eat 1200 if for 2lbs loss a week. How much should I up it?0 -
Tiff, I do 2 days of cardio and 3 days of lifting and always fasted, as I workout at 5:00 am. Somedays it's hard to get out of bed, but that's just because I have long days. I give myself 2 full rest days each week.0

Haha - You'll be fine if you have a good night sleep. And buy some prework out0 -

Thanks for your input! How fast are you seeing results? I eat clean and I'm about 30 pounds away from my goal weight.0 -

You should be aiming for 0.5-1lb loss per week. 2lbs is too large a deficit when you have 30lb to lose and want to maintain as much muscle as possible.0 -

Pre-workout is a supplement which gives you added energy to your workout. You will lift a lot more on pre-workout.0 -
I'll up my calories during this program, my calories will be at 1200 only when I'm sedentary.0

Did you run your numbers on scoobie? You are 20yrs old. You should eat at least at your BMR caloric level.0 -

I just did the scoobie calculation, it said 1500... can I eat at this level and still lose fat/weight fast? MFP says 1200 for 2lbs a week, which is my temporary goal,0 -

Working out like you described and eating 1200 calories a day is not going to do it. Your net calories will be under 1200 which is not healthy and will slow down you metabolism. You have to eat to lose weight. Try the TDEE minus 10-15% and adjust accordingly. Don't be in a hurry. A healthy life style is not a sprint...it's a marathon with no finish line.0 -

Never cardio 1st. You want to use your glycogen (stored energy) for you lifting then do the cardio. You'll burn more fat doing the cardio after you've used your glycogen...fat will be the fuel for the cardio.0
