Motivation for The Yo-Yo, Older or Whatever Shape!

I have heard and read so many negatives about trying to lose weight again after years of yo-yo dieting that I nearly didn't even attempt it! And add my age on top of that and the obstacles seemed almost insurmountable!!! But Thank God! I didn't give into that defeatist attitude! I am here to tell you that regardless of how old you are, what shape you are in, or how many diets you have tried in the past---it is still NEVER too late!!!

A lot of women are put off trying to lose weight in "middle age" because they get told it is so much harder, not sure it is true. I found it reasonably easy to lose 40lbs. Would have lost it faster but I am lazy and slipped a few times.

I am 56 and was going through the menopause when I started so it can be done.

I don't know if I believe it either. It's much easier for me than it's ever been before. I think maturity, perspective, and practice telling my kids "no" a million times a day has made me a much better dieter than I ever was when I was younger. I'm 45, 120 lbs down since October 1, 2012. Edit: I'm also helping my Mom in law and she's lost 40 pounds in just over 2 months. She's 64. I think it's all hogwash that it gets harder as you get older.

That's encouraging. I am a yoyo dieter. I always get to goal, then 6 months or a year later, I'm back up. But I'm not giving up and giving in. This time, I figure I need to eat real food so I can keep eating the same way for my whole life. I love seeing all the positive results.

So good to read this thread! I am just Getting back on track and today resigning up for MFP! I have yo-yo many times and I am hitting the breaks before I fall all the way back down. Could use some friends for support!!

I absolutely agree. I'm finding that weight loss is 90% mental, and if you tell yourself "I can" and "I will" it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from or how long it takes. Anyone can get there, as long as they believe they can :) Love seeing this positivity!

I agree....older yo yo'er here as well. Once you get your mind in the zone....you can do anything.
