Jacinda,
I read your blog. You have a very easy to read writing style. I wish you well in the journey you have both started.
In the interests of helping you get off on the right foot, I would like to offer some suggestions:
1. Since it sounds like both of you are pretty well out of shape, from your description of the treadmill time, if you have not already done so, I would encourage you to both have a doctor's exam to make sure of any limitations you might have on exercise. If you already did this, great, but if not, and either of you have something like untreated hypertension (high blood pressure), heavy cardio exercise could be dangerous.
2. I know you already spent some money on your new life plan, but you may need to spend some more. A heart rate monitor (HRM) will allow both of you to track your progress and help you stay in the optimal zone for fat burning.
3. You mentioned getting weighed on a neighbor's scale, so I suggest you get a digital body weight scale. You can get one for under 40 dollars that will weigh in .2 lb. increments. Use this scale as a basis for calculating your weight loss. They should be available at Walmart, Target, Walgreen's and other stores.
4. Do some web research or get a book on nutrition, so you know what you are shooting for, as far as what to shop for, so you will have the healthy foods you need in your house. And if there is any junk in there, throw it or give it away.
5. Set realistic mini goals for yourselves, and think of a non-food reward for when you reach each one. This will help you keep from being overwhelmed, which it sounded a little like you might be in part of your blog posts.
6. If your family/friends are supportive, great!! If they make negative comments or try to sabotage your efforts, IGNORE them. You are doing this for you!!
7. Keep a positive attitude, and remember you only fail if you give up. So DON'T!!!
Best of luck to the both of you.:flowerforyou:0 -

You are welcome.
One other thing, if your hubby doesn't have an account set up on MFP, encourage him to do so. He is more likely to be successful in his lifestyle change if he takes responsibility for recording his own progress, just as you are doing for you.0
