Hi, I have been dieting for what feels like most of my life (my mum first put me on diets when I was in my early teens considering that my puppy fat was 'bad' and therefore needed to go). Since then my weight has gone from healthy 8st to my heaviest at 26st 4 (368lb), I have been dieting now for 2 years and 6 months straight and currently weigh 201lb (14st 5). I am struggling now though, have had a bit of a slip, my lowest weight was 196lb but I have managed to gain 5lb back. I am considering the 5:2 plan because not eating has never been a huge issue (I can actually go a couple of days without eating at all (which is part of the issue) but the idea of being able to consume less than 1000 kcal in a day and lose weight appeals...

I struggle to find exercise I like and enjoy but I have an Xbox Kinect and find myself working out on that daily (so much better, in my view, than the WII) and go to an actual Zumba class once a week. I live a relatively sedentary life style I don't even have to leave my home to go to work as I have a home office set up (can be incredibly lonely)...and though I initially started my dieting two years ago with a friend she has since given up and I am now going it alone. I was using weight watchers but moved and now no longer have that monitor of the meetings as the nearest one is too far away to get to (4 miles).

Hoping that I will be able to find that motivation back (no idea why the thought of getting into a smaller dress size isn't enough)...and get some good ideas about 5:2 and how it really can work for me!

Hi! I've been that up and down person, too. Hang in there. I'm going it alone myself, but am finding that using MFP to record everything I eat is really helping. I just need to drink more water and try to get some exercise in each day (which is not easy for me, I hate it). I pay for a gym membership that I haven't used in over a year - truly sad!!

I have a few friends like that - one has been paying for a membership and personal trainer for the last two years and hasn't stepped foot in the place since the day she signed up. I keep on resisting joining the gym because I don't like them, I love to swim but the nearest pool is 30 mins away and by the time I get there the desire to swim has vanished (along with the desire to stand in line - we have a single pool in a 15 mile radius and a population of 50k to swim there!)

I've been dieting for around 15 months now and lost 75 pounds taking me down to 200 pounds. It helped when I joined here, at 65 pound and struggling, nice to talk to people in the same position. found it easier to exercise the more weight I lost. Like walking, free and easy to start with. Hope you find something you enjoy. Never tried the 5:2 diet, couldn't go without a good amount of food every day! Add as friend if you want.
