lactose free food and help please

I have been really ill the last few days I thought it was a stomach bug but I have been told this morning I am lactose intolerant
I cant drink soya milk or almond milk it makes me gag and be sick any ideas on a lactose free foods?
I have to check all the packs now
has any one else got this problem and could you help me please I am finding it hard to find meals for me and my hubby to be who has to eat a lot as he burns of food easy
I was told about some tablets to take to eat milk products has any one tried them?

I stopped drinking dairy about 7 years ago because it made me feel ill.
After a week of not drinking milk the feelings of wanting milk had pretty much disappeared entirely.
I love soy milk though and had a friend with a really cool vegetarian family. I really looked up to them for their kindness and compassion and making me always feel welcome in their home so when I got home I thought soymilk was the way to go and had no problem drinking it. I think that aspect helped my viewpoint on taste.

Anything with a vegan label is going to be good for you. Many grocery stores carry rice cheese and lactose free cheese in addition to the vegan versions (the non-vegan versions tend to be a little easier for non-vegans to handle since the texture and taste are closer to the real thing). If you can't handle soy or almond milk, try rice milk. You could also try the vanilla varieties of soy and almond milk, which taste completely different. I have a mild lactose intolerance, so I try to keep my dairy to a minimum. The pills never worked for me, but I've known some people that swore by it, so it might work for you.
As for recipes, search for vegan versions of things, since they already have no dairy in them. The Hungry Girl blog also has some recipes that are either dairy free or could easily be modified to use the lactose free versions of things. You could also look around in the Happy Herbivores group for dairy-free recipes.0 -
It you are lactose intolerant (not allergic to milk) you should be able to eat natural cheese like cheddar and yogurt because the lactose is processed out. I find rice milk to be the closest in flavor to cow's milk, but I prefer vanilla almond milk for cereal, oatmeal, protein shakes, and baked goods. I don't like soy products because of the effect on hormones. Be careful of meats with fillers, sour cream and soft cheeses, and sauces because some brands add ingredients with lactose for a smoother texture. I've tried the lactaid tablets and they are not worth the intestinal trouble, in my opinion. Feel free to message me with any questions0
