Starting Ripped in 30 today, question about weights!

So I downloaded ripped in 30 on itunes today and watched the trailer. She said you need one set of light weights and one set of heavy. I already have 3lbs so I went out and bought 8lbs. Yea, yea I know that's not "heavy" but I'm working my way up. Anyway, I watched part of the first workout and she never says when to use which weights. Has anyone figured this out? Or do I just have to try and figure it out by what they use? TIA!

If you pay close attention everytime they pick up weights its always the 3lb ones. (I haven't seen level 4 yet, though ). I know at one point doing cross over crunches (I don't know the proper name), She says if you don't feel it, use a heavier weight. So, that's what id suggest if you find a move easy, move up in weights on that particular move.

I don't know your fitness level, nor what other workouts you've done. I've done RI30 before and actually just restarted it today (I've done 30 Day Shred, RI30, Kickbox FastFix 6 Week 6 Pack, Killer Abs & Body Revolution, all by Jillian, in the 14-15 months). I think I mostly used 5s the last time I did it. Today I used my 8s for almost everything, only the chair squat with the lateral flies (I did the first set with 8s) and the side lunges with front raise, did I opt for the 5s. Both those moves were in the final circuit.

If you've got some level of fitness, I would recommend getting a set of 5s and try doing as much with those as possible, rather than the 3s. Some moves, like the dumbbell swing & good mornings, you should be able to use the 8s for, even if your fitness level is low. And, actually, if your fitness level is low, I'd still recommend getting a set of 5s, because some moves will begin to feel too easy with 3s, and the 8s will likely be too heavy.

Good luck to you & best wishes for much success!

I just completed week one day one, and you are spot on. My fitness level has definitely increased in the 4 months I have been working out, and the 3s are too light, but I can't use the 8s for anything but the swings and good mornings. The workout kicked my *kitten* though, I felt kinda nauseated by the end lol. I had a really bad sinus infection for almost2 weeks and couldn't workout. It's crazy how much endurance you lose in such a short time. Still looking forward to tomorrow though!! Thanks for your thoughtful response!!! :)

Glad to help. Now go get some 5s (budget-permitting, of course!)! lol I was rather surprised that the workout is still tough for me, after all these months of working out... Regardless, it will get easier, I can promise you that, as long as you keep at it! Great job!
