Hey there everyone!
Ever since I watched the movie "Hungry for a Change" (if you haven't seen it i suggest you do. It's a great kick in the rear for all of us sedentary diet coke addicts, and clears up the myths of the food industry) I have be interested in juicing. I just bought my juicer this morning and had my first glass of "detox" juice. I hear you have to do a cleanse of dark greens before the juicing will have significant effects on your body. Lets just say that first glass was horrific. BUT i'm determined to give it a valid attempt.
Let's get this clear, i'm not trying to lose weight. I am trying to overhaul my health. I'm sick of being tired all the time and stressed about everything I eat. SO I feel like this is a good place to start to move towards a healthy and natural diet. Once I'm done with this cleanse I plan on eating organic or locally grown produce, stone ground wheat products and healthy fat sources like salmon and avocado.
I realize that in doing this I'll probably be logging a lot less but the end result is not to worry about the calories I put in but rather the nutrition I put in. Looking forward to seeing the changes. I'll be posting photos along the way if any one is interested in seeing the progression.

How do you know said documentary doesn't replace the myths of the food industry with equivalent nonsense? And what exactly are you cleansing? Mysterious toxins?0 -
hi JCS
i love to juice i try to have fresh juice every morning .What works best for me and i have read about is its good to change your greens every day0 -
My husband and I tried this after watching the documentary. He turned into a bear and I got an enormous migraine along with a case of the shakes (and were not junkfood junkies trying to "detox"). So I'd rather just eat the fruits and vegis and get the fiber so my blood sugar doesn't bottom out after an hour.
I think a glass of fresh juice with a meal is great. You're excited, you're motivated, just don't go too crazy with the changes or you'll crash and burn in a few weeks.0 -

Good point. And I don't know that it's not just a marketing ploy in and of itself. However I do think there is something to eating natural and I personally believe that cleansing myself before beginning couldn't hurt. I guess cleansing myself from the over processed, under nutrition-ed mess I've been eating. I'm doing it as a jumping off point. I don't plan on ONLY juicing.0 -

Completely agree with you. The juicing thing is just a three day thing. Then I want to eat more natural and less processed.0 -
I think juicing will help you get more of your daily fruits and veggies in, but I'm not sure how well it will do with detoxing. Anyone who cuts out caffeine cold turkey will experience headaches and fatigue. I know this because I didn't it 2 years ago. Ever since then I haven't had a caffeinated soda. I occasionally have an iced tea or coffee, but not every day. I don't drink soda ever. I have no urge to. Eating organic foods aren't always the answer, but if that makes you feel better then great. Just cut out a lot of the processed, frozen, fatty foods. I love to juice. I've found that if you add an apple to most recipes it will sweeten the mix.0

great. did you keep the receipt? still time to clean it up and put it back in the box and return it. I tried juicing. once you juice most things you end up without the fiber and you're drinking sugar. even with carrot juice, it's sugar. my triglycerides shot up like crazy. couldn't figure it out until someone told me that juice = sugar/carbohydrates. so I stopped.
it does taste good though. good luck.0 -
I dont replace a meal with juice i make it fresh every morning and drink it all morning long its just a part of my everyday eating it helps me to get more veggies into my diet0

I love my juicer. I have had it for about a yr and a half. I never did a "cleanse", just wanted to try to lose some weight. Well, that didn't happen, but I have noticed my IBS symptoms are minimal, my skin is clearer, and I just feel good. I don't juice on a daily basis, but I do enjoy a good glass of juice made of kale, spinach, apple, cukes, celery, and anything else I may have around every now and then. It's great for getting the bowels moving, and getting rid of fluid retention when it's that time of the month. I don't think it's a good way to get fruits and veggies in your diet since you are juicing the fiber out of it. I make smoothies for that. The micronutrients that fresh juice give you are supposedly very good for you. So go ahead and enjoy your new juicer. You might be interested in the documentary called, Fat, Sick and Almost Dead. He did a juice fast for 60 days, lost weight, and a health problem he was having cleared up. The guy is from Autstralia, obviously has enough money to take off time from work to travel around the country talking to people about his fast. It was interesting, but I could never do it!
One thing to remember is when your juicing, make sure you put some sort of fruit in with the vegetable juice or you may give up on the whole concept. It takes the edge off of the veggie taste. I tried to juice wheat grass and after trying it straight for awhile, I almost threw up drinking it. Now the thought of it makes me gag!!0
