Feeling really disheartened

I'm more than a little disappointed that I've kind of thrown in the towel in the last few days. I've injured my calf muscle (I assume it's torn again - only a few months since the last time) so exercise is tricky and this has really gotten me down, to the point I can't even be bothered logging my food or even trying to make good choices. Life has been pretty busy since February (major project at work, then we moved towns, so getting our house ready for sale, finding a new house, moving, getting children settled into school/kindy, finding a job) so I feel quite drained and tired anyway - I know having a healthier diet and exercising would help with that feeling.

How to get back on track? I'm really not that worried about loosing weight right now, rather focus on being healthier and then by summer, I will be ready to work at it again (let's face it, it's easier in summer - more daylight hours for exercising, salad veg in the garden).

Not to sound cliché - but take it meal by meal; day by day! I basically took the month of June off because of so many responsibilities coming to a head and no time for me (sound familiar?). Don't look at it as having to do everything - I know I do better when I start exercising first - even just going for a walk can kick start you back. Good luck!

FixItDuck - Take it day by day and work on the things that you can control. Do you plan out your meals? Can you prep a few days in advance to make it easier for you to make the healthy choices available? These are the things that if I do them I am on point and feeling great. It is ok to feel discouraged and wanting to throw in the towel... as long as you don't :) When I get off track I usually reach out to my friends that I know have like minded goals because that seems to get me back in the groove. If you want - feel free to add me!

Don't give up! :-) Everyone blows it now and again, and it's never too late to pick yourself up and start over... See if you can read something inspirational, let people around you know how you're feeling and see if you can rope any of them in to support you - even if it's just talking someone into taking a walk with you! Sounds like you are new in town, so maybe see if there are like minded groups you can join to meet new people, or take up a new hobby!

Not being able to exercise as much as you want isn't a disaster on it's own - just try to eat less to compensate for not being able to exercise. I saw this really cool article today "101 things to do besides eat" and I thought it was really helpful for giving me ideas for something else to do when I want to eat "just because"... I'm tired, or lonely or bored or whatever. Hopefully you can cut and paste this link and it will work and take you to it, otherwise just google that exact title and it should come up.

Hang in there - you are not alone! :flowerforyou:

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I guess trying to do it all at once is making it too hard right now (it's been possible in the past). Thinking I will work on getting 5+ serves of fruit and veg, drinking water and doing whatever exercise I can - incidentally my calf muscle is feeling much better after taking a break for a few days (I didn't even walk to get my son from school, because it had just started raining).

I think just working on a few things as you have said is a great idea, also try to make what you are eating more exciting. I found I was so fed up eating the same thing, that I posted a topic on here to ask how to make my salads and vegetables more exciting, I got 19 replies and I am now trying the new ideas, its much better. Don't feel bad, things can get on top of you and the last thing you feel like worrying about is what your eating or your exercise. When your calf muscle has recovered look for exercise that you really enjoy something that you would get up in the morning to do. Hope everything goes ok and I'm sure you will get back into the zone!

There's your motivation - to have more energy. As for the injury, I'm dealing with my second ankle sprain since May and it hasn't stopped my exercise. I think of it as time to focus more on upper body strength training. For cardio, I bounce on an exercise ball while doing fast arm movements with 1-lb hand weights. You can get back on track!

Exercise ball, might get it out tomorrow and use it. Fortunately the calf muscle has recovered much more quickly this time - possibly because I've been doing nothing to aggravate it, for the past week! Thanks for the suggestion.
