Foods worth the calories...or not.

After trying WW Smart Ones meatloaf, which I know isn't the *best* choice but I was being a bit lazy today, I was definitely disappointed. Definitely do NOT want to have that again. So, the question is....what have you found that's quick and easy and "worth the calories" (whether frozen or home made), or not worth the time. Anyone have any thoughts?

In the evening, I find a glass of wine worth the calories.... baked goods, not so much. (It takes less wine to dull the edges? How much bread would it take?)

I'm following a low carb plan, but I found that Kroger's Carbmaster yogurt satisfy my desire for something cold and sweet. Only 80 calories, 3 net carbs and 12 grams of protien. I look forward to most evenings when things are finally calming down to enjoy my tasty treat.

    Okay. Two things.

    1. No Sugar Added Fudgsicles are the GREATEST FOOD EVER and are only 40 calories a piece. They taste like chocolate ice cream!!! I mean, hello!!! Yummy in my tummy!

    2. I am totally in love with Palermo's Primo Thin frozen pizzas..... the crust is SUPER thin, and they are very very tasty and easy to prepare for days when you're feeling lazy (for me, every day). Because the crust is so thin, they are very low-cal compared to other pizzas, and yet I think they taste way better!! Also, they have several veggie options. Yum.

Smart Ones Rice Lemon Pilaf (or something like that) and today I had the Smart Ones Chicken Enchilada and it was good. I try to get the ones that are under 300 calories and 5 g of fat. Trying them out is the only way to see what is worth eating. These are good for me for lunch and less fattening/calorie packed than a sandwich, etc.
  • I don't do diet food. Every calorie has to be tasty.

Top of my list as far as satisfying for the calories would be any fresh fruits and vegetables.

Dense whole grain toast with peanut butter, or a banana with peanut butter for breakfast or snack.

Healthy-fat foods in small amounts are not only good for you but help keep you satisfied: nuts, olives, avocado, etc.

For sweets, I have pudding, fudgsicles, and Dove Promises.

For dinner things, Trader Joe's has a bunch of good options. Just had the BBQ Teriyaki Chicken tonight... 150 calories/cup. I also get frozen shrimp and salmon there every week, and the cioppino (seafood soup) is AWESOME and fairly low cal. I put the shrimp into easy stir fries, and shrimp burritos with beans.

Canned soups have too much sodium probably, but if you only have 100 calories and you're really hungry, they're good to have on hand.

Also string cheese. That's one thing I do buy the "light" version of, but only because I like it better.

I like to mix one container (6 oz.) of Dannon cherry yogurt with the same amount (or more, depending on how much you can take) of plain yogurt and sprinkle granola on top. It's not as sickeningly sweet, and gets your taste buds to switch over from really sweet foods. I also sprinkle some flax seed on top. Blueberries on top are the best! Or mix in some smashed banana. Mmmmm. I sometimes just sprinkle in regular cereal instead of granola. Some other yummy additions you could alternate_a SMALL amount of coconut or walnuts. I know it's not a savory meal, but I can't think of any good frozen ones! If you want a quick meal thats good for you, how about scrambled eggs in a tortilla with a little cheese and bottled green salsa?
