I started the shred today and was wondering....are you supposed to take rest days and if so how often? I know it's 10 days for each level but no break was mentioned. Is that because the workout is only 20 minutes? I didn't think working out for 30 days straight could cause tearing and injury.

Yes, the program is not designed to be done every day for 30 days. Aim for 2 or 3 rest days per week. Good luck!0

Its 6 days on 1 day off. so if you started monday, you get sunday off.0

No, you are not supposed to take rest days. & You are not supposed to pause the DVD. It is meant to be a strenuous one on top of the other exercise routine to force your body to change. She says you are supposed to work through the soreness and complete the Level you are on Daily. Lvl 1 for 10 days, lvl2 10 day, & lvl 3 10 days.0 -
She doesn't say it in 30DS, but in a later video (Ripped in 30, I think), Jillian Michaels says you should take at least one rest day a week. I think this is good advice even for a 20 minute workout like 30DS. I've generally done the videos no more than 5 days a week.0

Nope no break...just supposed to do it 30 days straight. However if your body can't handle it or you are in pain from it, you should probably take a break. Good Luck!0

I just recently completed 30DS and only took one rest day between levels 2 & 3
You are meant to work through the 30 days all in a row I think without resting if you possibly can! I found that one day off was enough for me to be ready for the final push0 -
I think they intentionally don't tell you this because it is meant for you to decide what you can do. Push yourself, but don't hurt yourself. Sometimes finding that fine line is tricky, but I think you know in your head when you absolutely need a rest and when you can push through.0

I've heard various answers to that question. If someone has a link from Jillian, I'd love to see it. But I figured that since there didn't seem to be a consistent answer I'd do whatever I wanted. I started out doing 5 days, and then a rest day when I did something else, then another 5 days. That was working fine, but then I ended up in the hospital for 4 days. There's no way I'm starting it over, because I'm getting kind of bored with it, so I just picked up where I left off. Life happens.0

Might sound harsh, but if you took breaks in between the days it wouldn't be 30 Day Shred. I agree with Pstaceya. You know your body and if you need the rest, take it.0

I did it mon-fri and had great results!! I am now doing ripped in 30 the same way.0

In a radio show interview, Jillian actually said the idea of 30DS only taking a month was a gimmick thought up by marketing and suggested instead doing two days of the Shred, one day of cardio, two more days, another cardio day, and then taking a rest day, repeating that until you've done thirty workouts. This is what I did, and it worked very well for me. If I'd tried to do thirty days straight, I'm pretty sure I would have burned out. Different things work better for different people however. Maybe that's not intense enough for some, but it certainly was for me!
As for the whole "it's not the 30 day shred if you don't do it thirty days straight" thing... that doesn't make any sense to me. Consecutive or not, it's still thirty days. Anyway, your workout is for you and you need to evaluate based on your own needs. There's absolutely no need to push yourself and risk injury in order to keep up with someone else's schedule.
