Is it ok to take a break?

Hi MFP! I was wondering if it's ok to take a break from working out for about a week? I worked out for about 9 days straight then went on a little vacation over the weekend with some light exercise. However, I am now sunburned and have tried working out but my body is in pain and i'm finding the only little exercise I can do at the moment is light running and lifting weights. I'm used to doing HIIT and weighted squats, lunges, etc. My question is, will taking a few days off from doing more intense exercise make all my progress go down the drain? Have my wedding coming up in 4 months and I don't want to waste it all away. Any advice would be appreciated. And please no rude comments. Thanks :)

Yes, of course. What do you think is going to happen if you take a break? If anything, breaks are a necessity, as are rest days.

All about your body here, if your body needs a break you take a break. The problem that sometimes happens is a week long break can turn into two and so on...just have to get back on that horse as soon as you are able.

^^^This. Don't get too comfortable, because sooner or later you go from one week off to a month, and then all your hard work soon goes to waste. It's happened to me before.

I take a full rest week from serious training every 5 or 6 weeks. I still walk or do fun stuff like swimming or hiking during that week, but no serious training or muscle work. My body needs the rest every now and again.
