So i've always thought fruits and vegatables were really good for you but it seems like they have no protein, lots of carbs, and lots of sugar. So im curious as to whether its actually good for you or not? My breakfast is normally a fruit and a string cheese...

You know, I was just about to post a question similar to this. Seems to me that I've heard there are good sugars and bad sugars, and the good ones come from fruits and veggies. I keep hitting my limit on sugar simply through eating fruits like strawberries, peaches, and plums, and veggies like carrots. Can anyone elaborate on this fruit deal?0

Despite what many people believe, you need these carbs and sugar. While you don't need a super amount of sugar, having a normal amount of healthy sugars and carbs (like that found in fruits) is fine. I would not worry about it too much. Vegetables and fruits don't have any protein, but nuts and eggs do and are very healthy too. If your normal breakfast everyday is only fruits and cheese, you should definitely add maybe a handful of nuts or an egg white into your daily breakfast routine. Getting the proper amount of protein is just as important!0

They are really good for you, but just like any other food, they have to be eaten in moderation because of said sugars.0

Fruit or sugar, or most food for that matter for that matter, are not inherently bad if they are part of a diet where you meet your minimum requirements from a macro (Protein and Fat) and micro (vitamins and minerals) perspective0

Don't complicate this. Fruit does have sugar but also has health benefits. You can Google that for yourself. Eat fruit, but not in excess.0

Unless you are diabetic or have some other medical rason for watching sugat intake, ignore the sugar macros on MFP. Yes, you want to avoid added and processed sugars, the high fructose corn syrup, candy cookies cake, soda, etc. BUT fresh fruit is very good for you, full of fiber and vitamins and minerals and other micronutrients. 1-3 pieces per day would contribute to a healthy diet. Veggies too, aim for 3-5 servings min per day.
Again, remember, the fresher and less refined/processed the better! (Although frozen fruits and veggies with no sugar, sauces etc added are also beneficial, and less processed than canned stuff.)
Edited to add - fruit can also help with sweets cravings, go for a nice bowl of berries, watermelon, etc when that sweet craving strikes!!0 -
there is protein in fruits and vegetables, not all fruits and veggies are high in protein but it is possible to get protein from plant sources. Also, carbs are not inherently bad. A body needs fats, carbs and proteins.

Fruit have a few times a day and veggies need to be the biggest part of your diet with a lean protien0

There's no good or bad sugar, there's simple and complex sugars. Fruits and veggies contain complex sugars which take more energy to metabolize. Fruit IS good for you. Unless you're diabetic, you can eat fruit at every meal and not worry about the sugar; it's a sugar that your body NEEDS and will turn it into energy. The sugar in soda and tea and most processed foods, however, is simple and does almost nothing for your body.0 -
Just be cautious. Some fruits have more sugar in them than others, but ultimately, I don't worry about what fruits I eat as long as it's not 100% citrus. I usually have apples, grapes, pineapple, and bananas - and sparingly. Those are probably the most horrible ones according to sugar intake, but it's not like I'm having 18 of them every day.0
