Fasting & Metabolism

Hello,
I've seen people doing intermittent fasting, and some of them are fasting for 17-18 hours!
The question is, what happens to your metabolism if you do that everyday?
For me, it's this month of the year when muslims fast from sunrise to sunset (No food, no drinks).
Thanks.

Metabolic slowdown does NOT occur that quickly.0

It takes 72 hours of zero food to even have metabolic adaptation. 17-18 hours is nothing0

Intermittent Fasting FTW!
16:8 / 19:5 / 20:4 doesn't matter what your split is as long as you eat !0 -
Yes, as others have mentioned, no need to be concerned about metabolic slowdown while you're fasting for the holiday. The whole "eat every few hours to keep your metabolism running" myth is just that: a myth.
Here's a good thread that was posted recently about fasting for Ramadan: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1038039-ramadan-fasting-mfp-and-you-a-guide
Have a good Ramadan!0 -
What everybody else said, your metabolism is quite resilient, takes 72 hours of 0 calorie intake at a minimum for thermogenic adaptation to occur.0

Thank you all so much :happy:0
