Emotional eating

I have found myself eating as almost a punishment to myself. On my bad emotional days (lots of stress in my life right now), I notice that my thought process while I'm stuffing my face all day is "ya just keep eating fatty, who cares." I feel silly sharing this with people I know.

it is a serious problem and I know probably a common one. You just gotta work on it, you have to change the way you look at food and rechannel your energy, instead of eating, try going for a walk or something that can be positive.0

don't feel silly. i suffer from it too. you just have to learn to put your brain in a different mindset.
Questions I ask myself:
1. Is eating this cookie really going to make things better or go away?
2. Am I going to feel worse after indulging?
3. It doesn't hurt the person I'm mad at (bf usually), only myself.

I do the same thing and I read somewhere that the reason we do this is because once we introduce sugar or fatty foods it triggers the addictictive part of the brain. I noticed this before I read it....the moment I eat something sweet I just crave it all day long and my problem is in the a.m. which just sets me up for the whole day.
I am personally going to try to withdrawl from eating sugary or fatty and instead eat fruit or something healthy like berries or nuts that I hear work to curb that fatty craving and keep you full.

These are great questions to ask yourself! Gets you thinking about the "why" not just the "what" you are eating.
Sometimes, I also give myself "permission" to eat for emotional reasons. Just the act of giving myself permission somehow makes the eating less intense, almost like a caretaking act instead of rebellion. When I do this, even though I set out to eat the whole bag of cookies, for example, I will often start to feel better after say, three cookies. I can then walk away and know I didn't do too much damage.
It's a lot of emotional work, but it is so worth it!0 -

I used to think like this and then one day i woke up and decided that I care about me even if no one else does. My husband is emotionally abusive and I had days where I would just do nothing but think about what he was saying and cry all day. I ate and ate because no one cared. BUT I CARE and I had to prove that to myself. Getting out and working out at the gym has helped to relieve some of my stress and gave me time to think things through. It is my time to spend with me becasue I am worth it. You just have to tell yourself that youre worth it and who cares??? YOU CARE!!! Best wishes and Good luck.
