How to cut out more Sugar

Hello All!
I'm new to myfitnesspal, and once I started tracking my foods I was astonished by how much sugar I was ingesting! I'm trying to stick to eating mostly fruits and veggies and after lunch I'd still already be well over my 24g suggested. Anyone else having trouble with this? How can I cut out more sugar? Is sugar from fruit as bad as the sugar from other foods?

dont need to track sugar too carefully unless you have a condition that requires it. just focus on the main macros fat, protein and carbs. enjoy the fruits and veggies but just cut down on added sugars like sugar you add into coffee, cakes, soda's, etc.0

24g is really low, usually the recommendation is for 30g... and yes, that is still low. You'll pretty much get 30g from fruits, veggies, and natural whole foods. So anything with added sugar is gonna be way over this limit.
Sugar is sugar. It's better if you get it from sources that have vitamins and lower calories, like fruits, rather than desserts. But the effect of the sugar on the body is the same.
I don't think 30g or less is realistic. I've never made it close to that either. Try to keep it as low as possible, but as others will tell you, its not the end of the world if you are a bit over unless you have certain health conditions.
I try to keep mine under 60... and often fail0 -
I also was amazed at the amount of sugar I ate. At first I was obsessed, trying to suss out every gram. This was not bad, because it helped me make some good trades and vary my diet. Eventually I stopped worrying too much about going over if it was mostly veggies and fruit. What helped the most was upping my protein over the MFP suggestion and cutting back on carbs. That helped with sugar craving and hunger. That said, some people swear by the low sugar even if it is fruit. I won't totally eliminate any food because there are benefits and drawbacks to all.I am not dieting, I am making nutritional choices. I am still new to MFP so perhaps others will have more specific advice. Good luck!0

I've also been working on watching my sugar intake. I'm focusing on getting most of my sugar from natural sources- fruit, rather than processed foods and sweets. Start with being aware of what you're getting in and how your body feels. Then look at ways to make little changes and it's effect on your body. (That's what I'm doing.)0

Eat less fruit and grains, eat more vegetables. You can get all of the same nutrition from vegetables as you can get from grains and fruit, just vary the kinds you are eating and think colourful0

Unless you have a medical reason to monitor your sugar intake, don't worry about it.

True, but you can get sufficient amounts from seeds and vegetables combined. As well, berries are a lower sugar fruit, so that could be included in eating less fruit in general.0 -

It's not. I copy/pasted from a post I posted to someone else, from at least a couple weeks ago. There's probably at least 47 more since then.0 -

Yep. No need to actually address the real issue that she's worrying about something she doesn't need to worry about. Big Help. Huge. You'll do well here.0 -

There's no need to be rude. I happen to disagree that there's nothing to worry about so I chipped in my two cents. All I did was encourage her to eat more vegetables, that's hardly a detrimental comment.0 -

Uninformed and ignorant = detrimental
Even the American Heart Association, which does recommend reducing sugars, makes an exception for naturally occurring sugars.
I know, I know, it's all "opinion," right? And all opinions are "special." FFS, this is why we can't have nice things . . .0 -
