Jelly belly and it ain't going no where...ever

Hey, so I've ALWAYS been soft around the middle. Even at 18 years old and 125 lbs. now I'm 30 post csection and have worked my but off for a year. It's still gushy and spills over when I sit. I LOVE my legs and but, but that's the first place ill see weight loss. Oh that and my boobs of course ????. Anyhow just hoping to get some inspiration/tips and helpful friends. I

My baby is 30, I'm at about 19% BF, done lots of cardio, weights, you name it and still have that mom pouch. Had it before I had kids, worse now and it isn't going anywhere, ever. I've learned to just accept it because short of a tummy tuck it's mine to keep.

Getting abs is 70% diet. Our bodies love to store fat in the midsection. Processed foods and carbs are your enemy. try not to eat anything from a box that has ingrediants that you can not go out into nature and find on your own. Get your carbs from whole wheat (not whole wheat flour) and fruits and Veg.

I always had a bit of a lower pooch when carrying extra weight but when I got pregnant, everything shifted up. Now I have a huge bulge just under my boobs that makes me still look pregnant when I turn to the side. I cannot believe that body fat can shift like that. I hope to baby Jeebus that when I am done losing all my weight it goes away. Right now, it doesn't even appear to be shrinking. :-/

Can someone thoroughly explain "lift heavy". Is it using certain machines at certain weights or lifting certain type of dumbells. I will be going to the Y and would really like to lose my belly. I've lost 25lbs in 2 months using a product. I want to lose an additional 15 lbs and definetly want to lose the belly fat. Please suggest actual machines or examples of type of weights. Thanks.

Agreed. Feeling a little slow not understanding the term. I will not go to a gym and do all my exercising at home. So anything I can do there?

Do you have any weights at home? Barbell? Dumbbells?

Well, when most people say lift heavy they are talking about compound lifts with barbells such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses etc. Really anytime you lift anything that causes you to exert yourself and feels heavy you're on the right track. Start with dumbbells if you need to and work your way up. I started with pretty low weights but I have just finished my fifth week of my compound lifting program. I cannot tell you how much it has already improved my body in such a short period of time. I'm using a program called Thinner Leaner Stronger by Michael Matthews but there are tons to choose from. Look into Starting Strength, Stronglifts 5x5, or New Rules of Lifting. All of these will help you and seem to be the most popular.

I bought myself a 300lb barbell weight set and a power rack. I also have a set of adjustable dumbbells. I don't know your financial situation, though.

If you're unable to purchase equipment, check out the book You Are Your Own Gym and look into bodyweight circuit training routines.

I've heard this as well and my trainer confirmed it. Didn't believe it myself until I met a few people with a 6 pack who never lifted a day in their lives but ate good/healthy.

Well, I mean, if your trainer and like 3 other people confirmed it, it must be true.

Try not to put yourself into the mindset that it will NEVER go away, because it can! I have seen MANY post csection moms get their belly back with heavy lifting & a caloric deficit. I, myself, am a mother of 2, my youngest via csection as of January 2012. I have lost almost 120 lbs & my baby "pooch" is almost gone. Never say never!

I think some of what you have to do to get there may be genetic specific. I can eat clean and my stomach will go down, but it has never been "flat" and when I gain it's always in the stomach first. Through reading various threads, I realize that I have been "skinny fat" most of my life. So, for myself I think I would have to add the weight training component to get the "flat " stomach. Others with different body types could probably go with diet and cardio alone.

  • I've read all the comments here and I hope someone can give me some advice. I have a LOT of weight to lose. My problem is that I didn't just have a Csection, the idiot doc cut me from belly button down. Years later, I had a hernia that started at the belly button and it "ripped", following the scar line downward. I know there are some workouts that will make things look "worse" than they are. Any advice on helping the muscles "corset" themselves tighter would be helpful. I know crunches and such aren't good when you've had a hernia repair.

Ok, so then I have one question. Would Jillian Michaels ripped in thirty be considered "lifting" Or proper weight training? There is strength incorporated as well as HIIT (which I enjoy for endurance). I am going to try this instead of running 3 times a week and see how it goes at 4-5 times a week. I hope to be ripped but feminine as well. Thanks for the tips. If I ever can invest in a bar bell I may do that. But will make do with what I have right now. I probably hav focused more than necessary on cardio for a while because of my calories...I LOVE to eat:)

It would not be considered "lifting heavy" but it is definitely strength training. And when it gets easy, increase the hand weights. I do 30 Day Shred and Ripped in 30, but try to use 7-8lb dumbbells when possible. I also like Denise Austin's body boot camp dvd. Again, it uses light weights, but increase whenever possible.
