Macros/calories.

Hello everyone, just a quick question, if I go over on certain macros (always seems to be either carbs or sugar) but I still have calories remaining, does it matter if I just go way over on the macros to meet the calorie need?

Thanks people, was just wondering because I've seen the 'If It Fits Your Macros' around a lot but wasn't sure what to follow.

I disagree, but that is just me.

I am on a medically supervised and controlled diet of 1000 on which I am allowed only 1 serving of dairy, 1 serving of restricted veggies, unlimited free veggies, 3 servings of fruit, 2 servings of carbs, starches, and cereals, 7 servings of protein, and 1 serving of fat.

I have done the "eat whatever I want as long as I am staying at 1200 calories" and it did not work for me. Because you are not getting a well rounded nutrition you are losing so much more fo your potential to not only be healthier but to lose weight healthier.

Goal is to become slim, becoming muscular is not a priority for me (but obviously it's still important to retain the muscles I do have.)

For the record, "if it fits your macros" does not mean "eat whatever you want". It means that if you can eat what you want, provided you are getting enough carbs, protein, fat and vitamins. For instance, there are days where, at the end of the day, I have already met my protein and fat goals, and my vitamins are all at 100%, but I have a few hundred calories left over and some carbs I haven't eaten. In that case, I have no qualms about eating a bag of skittles, or having a cookie. I don't restrict myself from any particular food, but I do take care to make sure I get everything I need every day.

Ignore sugar unless you have a medical reason. The macro is based on national recommendations for added sugar, but MFP does not distinguish between added sugar and naturally occuring sugar, so eating the recommended amount of fruit daily will blow sugar out of the water fairly easily. As for your carb macro, so long as your others aren't suffering significantly, going over on one won't cause any problems.
