Coconut oil

I love coconut oil, and I've tried different brands, different jars. Today I went to a supermarket and they had coconut oil on sale, so I grabbed a jar, just looked that it said Organic. So I decided to sautee some veggies (eggplant, onions, etc) with it. Only after the veggies started cooking, I noticed that coconut oil smelled liked coconut!!!! This never happened to me! I always know that coconut oil has a neutral smell and neutral taste!!! So I didn't want to throw away my dinner and decided to just add other stuff to see if they would kill the coconut taste and smell. Well, they didn't. It was weird: eggplant tasting like coconut!
So I looked at the jar and it said "Unrefined". So I guess that's why it still had the original smell? I've never had this problem before.
Anyways, where can I use it now? Which foods wouldn't taste weird because of the coconut smell and taste? Don't say desserts, because I'm not going to make any!

You could just use it for other stuff, like not cooking. There is plenty of ways to use it. What brand did you buy?

Here is a link of ways, didn't read them all but you get the idea. Hope that helps.

Did it taste like Coconut too? I use the unrefined stuff and I never noticed a coconut flavor to anything.
I use Coconut oil in my hair and on my skin and as a oil for cooking, etc.

OMG the organic stuff we get at Trader Joe's or Costco makes the the whole kitchen smell like coconut. If I use it on my skin it reminds me of Hawaiian Tropic!

I Love Coconut oil! I do use the refined, organic etc. I use it for cooking, but most people don't realize the health benefits of oil pulling, or using it as your moisturizer--great skin lotion, which also tightens the skin and refines lines, or that you can use it to whiten your teeth. You can also use it in your hair as a mask (I am a licensed cosmetologist and learned about this one in the beginning) and you can use it to take your eye makeup off.

I hope I was able to help in some way!

From what I've heard, there are a bunch of low quality coconut oils hitting the market and they are not nearly as beneficial for your health as the good stuff.

Do you consider kettle corn dessert?

I make coconut kettle corn with:
    1/4 cup coconut oil
    1/3 cup popcorn
    1 tsp sugar

It does have a strong coconut taste to it. Doesn't bother me - love the stuff.

Well, I use Carrington Farms Pure Extra Virgin Organic Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil, and I have not had the problem of the "coconut" taste...I also use this in my oatmeal with some fresh berries and a sliced banana, with cinnamon on top. I use it on my baked potato and you know you can use it in place of lotion. I use it on my son who has autism because I try to avoid stuff with fragrances and dyes on his sensitive skin. I use it on my skin and I had it on my skin in my profile pic. I also use it on my lips and as an oil for my hair. So, maybe you could use it as a skin hydrator?

This, this and this. I have naturally curly hair and I'm always experimenting with oils to moisturize it. I also use benzoyl perozide as an acne treatment and use coconut oil as a moisturizer if my skin feels particularly dry. I've used coconut oil and other oils as makeup removers and generally find I prefer them to drugstore oil-free moisturizers. I've used it to sautee foods. The kind I use has a light coconut scent that doesn't generally last on the body or in food.

Thank you, guys, I'll try the other uses: for my skin, hair, etc. I'm going to smell like a coconut, though! LOL!
