Shaking after eating

I would have said that I assume this isn't normal.but after I ate today I got a sugar rush but I didnt have sugar ,like not too much for the day.Im really confused why and it ended with shaking and exhaustion. Is this some weird diet side effect?it was really weird.still kinda shaky. And ate so much truly i felt like I couldn't move . Thoughts?today I had water not logged yet cucumbers, littke Caesars pizza, and crystal light lemonade made by the kiddos. The pizza was a late lunch/and dinner because we were busy working.rather then log it twice I just combined.so I did have three meals, although the first was small due to oversleeping and garage sale stuff.

I had breakfast it consisted of fiber one cereal and skim milk with strawberries....less than an hour later my sugar dropped to 68. I was shaking and broke out in a sweat...i'm not sure why I get these drops. So now I make sure I have an egg with breakfast at the very least. Anyone else can chime in for both of us i would appreciate it

It's poor sugar control, your body can't handle the amount of carbs you're eating. If you're sedentary you need to get moving -- nothing crazy, even a 20 minute walk will make a world of difference. But you also need to cut out some of the carbs each meal and replace them with fat and protein. Keep cutting carbs until you find the amount you can tolerate.

I think you should see a doctor for blood work, of course, but low carb is what worked for me.

It definitely sounds like a blood sugar issue.

Otalip, I think what happened is that your meal consisted of easily used sugars (carbs) that got used up or stored very quickly. The protein in the egg however breaks down more slowly, so it can be used for a longer period time and help maintain blood sugar. I would not suggest going low carb without getting medical advice. If you cut your carbs too low you risk having low sugar more immediately before your body breaks down the proteins for energy.

fatmommy 2013, I would suggest talking to your doctor. If you "ate so much that you couldn't move," it is possible you had very high blood sugar. If it gets too high, it can also cause shakiness, dizziness, etc. Have you had blood sugar problems before? But it also sounds like you had a very busy day, so it could have been low; aside from the pizza it sounds like a low carb day. How soon after eating did you feel like this?

For both of you, using the glycemic index might help. It can help you make food choices that will keep your blood sugar steady throughout the day. Avoiding spikes and drops would prevent the symptoms. Once again, talk to a doctor or nurse to get a real evaluation of the problem (I don't want to base too much on the little bit I know), and to a get a good lesson in the right way to use it. They may suggest checking your sugar throughout the day if this is a common occurrence.

    :( sucks

Why don't you go to the doctor just to sure. Didnt read the other comments but def. get it checked out ...maybe diabetic issue??
  • I'm not actually sedentary or anything like that. But I was trying to make my calorie burn more accurate because it overestimates everything. I switched it from mid active to low. I am still very busy and very much moving,
Also I completely am not and have ever been diabetic before.
When I say I couldn't move I men that thanksgiving ugh exhausted from eating turkey can't move. I could physically move, just super sluggish.and Bloated from eating too much I guess. (People seem to feel I dot eat enough which is why I want to be very very clear I ate a ton. Three huge triangle pieces of pizza is a ton,at least for me)
Clarify: after I ate I felt overly full. Then I was super hyper and kinda shaky. It actually felt similar to when you drink wayyyy too much. Then my eyes were tired and I was still shaky and then I really couldn't get up without someone pulling me and I was too tired to function.
Could it be a carb thing that affected the sugar? Or dies aspartame affect sugar?

Did you just start changing your dietary ways? Could also be a sugar or carb addiction. My doctor told me folks who eat too much of the wrong kind get shakes after they eat due to an addiction that triggers your bodies crave response.

I had them for months until finally the craves stopped. My advice would be to get medical clearance and then ride them out with a glass of water, it does help to sip the water as the craving gets out of your system.

You need to see a doctor. They can perform tests to see why your body is reacting to food this way. You said you reset your activity level from mildly active to low; it may be that you're not eating enough calories overall, then when you over-consume it's a major surprise to your body. If you have kids, there's no way you are low-activity, even without added exercise.

If you're not willing to see a doctor, I suggest you up your calories again and see if that helps. Also trade the simple carbs (white flour, refined sugar) and replace them with complex carbs by eating fruits and vegetables and whole grains such as whole grain bread, whole grain pasta, brown rice, quinoa, etc. Eat smaller meals 4-6 times a day instead of overeating 3 times a day.

Your diary is closed so any response is kind of moot. As already recommended, don't ask us...SEE A DOCTOR!

I am diabetic and it sounds like you need to see a doctor. I do not understand what you meant when you said you are not diabetic, how do you know?

yowza. see a doc. sounds like it might be a blood sugar issue. take care of yourself.
  • Omg you are right.i just weened from sugar addiction. I haven't even technically finished the "detox" time frame they gave me. I guess since I'd been feeling better i hadn't thought much about it being the cause.just thought that maybe I can't have aspartame maybe or if there was something inthe crust,
    Thanks mr c!

Ps I know imnot LIKELY diabetic because the doctor ran tests before I quit my crazy pop consumption. Before they could let me overhaul my diet they said they had to e sure I could do it at home.i took it to be overcautionon their part.but everything cane back ok, despite my pop consumption. I no longer eat white bread, most sugars, and no longer have caffeine. It isn't just about weight loss, its about the example I set for the kids and the food I prefer them to want.myparents drank a lot of pop. I drank a lot of pop.i never drank water until recently.

    Thanks guys!

Go see a doctor. Also, I would suggest buying a blood glucose monitor and check your fasting (morning, before breakfast) blood glucose and 2 hour post breakfast/meal.

You might be pre-diabetic, diabetic, or have reactive hypo. I have reactive hypo.

The gold standard test of reactive hypo is: hyperglucidic breakfast test. If your doctor believes you have reactive hypo, the doctor may want to perform a 4 hour GTT (glucose tolerance test). I would not suggest getting the GTT because it can be dangerous if you have reactive hypo.

    Dietary treatments for reactive hypo.
    1) High carb (moderate, low gi carbs) diets -- 6 mini meals a day, eating every 2-3 hours (i.e. grazing). I wasn't a fan of this because I felt like I was always thinking about food.

    2) Moderate carb balanced diet: south beach, zone, atkins maintenance phase, mediterranean (40 c; 40 f; 20 p). My favorite...

    3) Low carb: some find success on this. I wasn't a personal fan because I am a runner and it affected my performance.
