Natural Cold Remedies You Use?

So I find myself on the receiving end of my toddlers cold. He has a cough and a runny nose, I get a runny nose and a sore throat. Generally I just hydrate and double up on vitamin C and wait it out but I'm leaving for vacation in six days and am not to happy about the idea of feeling this way while we are gone. Any tips on ways to kick the cold quickly and naturally? Besides the basics of hydrating, vitamin c, lemon water, extra sleep, washing my hands more often and not touching my face?

Ps I feel the need to write this on every single thread I post on here so sad but true, please no rude remarks, comments or jokes I'm simply asking for what has worked for you.

Thanks mucho!

There are lot of herbs that can help with the symptoms, but not make the cold go away sooner. There have been some studies that Zinc may speed it up.

I recommend a massage, it can actually speed the rate in which your lymph system takes care of the pathogens in your system. Just a regular Swedish massage will do. It also increases your T-cell production. But yeah staying hydrated and getting extra sleep will help a little too. If you get a low fever let your body use it to fight your cold.

    Oil of Oregano.

It tastes so awful, but it's my go-to now over any cold medication.

Echinacea (the quality stuff), cod liver oil and warm lemon and honey water does it for me. In large doses.....

Any natural sleep aid helps, as I find sleep to be the best way to speed recovery.

Where do you purchase that at? and do you just drink it in a spoon? is it an actual oil or a spice?

Any health food store will have it, and quite a few pharmacies carry it now as well. It is oil, you use about 4 drops, the best way is to put it under your tongue and let it sit for a moment then just chug a glass of water (it does tingle/burn a little). the taste is quite overwhelming but it has helped me a lot.

It comes in a small bottle like this (i have this particular one and it was around 15$ but lasts a long time)

I use Zycam and it's works for me - but the trick is you have to use it early at the very first symptom. For me, echinacea works the same way.

I've become a believer in food grade hydrogen peroxide. NOT the stuff you buy at the grovcry of drug store which is 3% and has lots of preservatives. Food grade H2O2 is 50% strength, and will sting like crazy if yiou get it full strength on your skin. A basic google search will get you some good info. I start with 4 drops or so in a cup of water 3-4 times a day.
