QUESTION for you guys - do anyone know if dates are healthy? I know they have a lot of sugar, but is it good sugar? I LOVE dates, and eat them a lot when they're in season(right now)! Today I ate like 8 lol. Does anyone know if they're good for you or should I stay away from them??

I would never say no to fresh fruit in-season.
  • Dates are healthy and oh so sweet!

If you are cookinig you can replace the sugar in your recipe with dates - one cup of pureed dates (add a little water in the blender with them) is equal to one cup of sugar.

I don't keep dates in the house because I'd eat every last one of them if they were here. They are my go to food though when I am really craving candy and other fruit just isn't cutting it.

They're pretty calorie dense, but they're lovely and full of fiber. I wouldn't even worry about the sugar because it's naturally-occurring.

I've never had a fresh date - only dried. They are one of my favorites! Where do you buy yours fresh?

Medjool dates are the way to go - they are rich and caramel-y, but 65-70 cals apiece! The BJ's near me sells a pound of them for less than $10, and Wegmans usually has them in the bulk section.

I'm a low carb guy so there's no such thing as a 'good sugar' or a 'good date'. stay away.
