Day 5 - Monster appears

So my husband is in the military, is super active, and obviously has no issues with weight or muscle.
This weekend he had 3 days off, which just so happened to coincide with the start of my life change. I explained to him that I was starting a diet, and to be honest I think he realised it was coming when the scales were purchased last week that this time I meant business!
In the last few weeks I also cut my dependency on diet drinks, so I no longer have caffeine daily, however...
I've turned into a monster!
Last night when we were discussing dinner, I had a look at the side of the jar for the pasta sauce he wanted. I almost broke down wailing, saying that I couldn't have it. He decided to offer me a snack that he had made, and I snapped at him super badly and almost yelled at him saying, 'I. CAN'T. EAT. THAT!- I'M. ON. A. DIET'
Has anyone else turned into a crazy woman?! (Btw, I ended up making the entire pasta meal for him without succumbing to it myself, while making up myself some grilled chicken with a half plate of vege lol).
I don't want my husband to hate me by the end of this, so does this get better? I was so much happier after I ate, but boy, the poor man must be glad he's back at work today!

Sounds to me like you are on too few calories. My doctor told me to up mine and she asked if I was cranky because it was low.0

I do when I haven't had enough to eat.
I will say this though, I don't consider myself to be on a diet. I consider it to be a lifestyle change and mostly I eat in moderation. This includes pizza, chocolate, pasta's, steak, veggies, ect. I get pretty moody some days when I've opted to eat very small meals so that I can eat a lot of pizza or something later. I personally think that if you can't do it for the rest of your life, then it's probably not a good plan.0 -
Ha, if I asked my wife to prepare a meal that she couldn't eat, then I think she would probably bite my head off.0

You need to stop saying you are on a diet!!!!!
It is a life change, which you will do for ever, a diet means at some stage you will go of them and most people fall of it far to soon.
Especially when your husband is home you need to enjoy having him around.
I suggest that on those days he is home ask him to take you out for nice long walks or cycles or anything else that is romantic and burns calories. By burning calories you can eat more, that is very simple.
Agree with the first poster, maybe you need to up your calories a little. It might take a little longer to get where you want to go but you are more likely to get there.0 -
I only get like that when I'm not eating enough calories. Stock up on things you can eat. Otherwise eat with moderation in mind. You don't want to ruin a marriage over the sake of a few calories. If you eat something bad, tell your hubby he is now personally responsible to ensure it is worked off by the end of the night....(sorry I tend to have naughty thoughts...lol)0

Yeah. When my blood sugar gets too low, or I'm just plain hungry, and turn into the Wicked Witch of the West
As far as the pasta sauce - why couldn't you have it? Were you already over your calories or a macro? While I applaud you wanting to make positive changes and having willpower to stick to your goals, it is never a good idea to let your diet rule your life. In the future, my advice would be to plan a bit more in advance and make sure your family dinner fits your macros and calories and then enjoy, within that. (I lost weight, about 15 pounds in 10 weeks, by eating differently than the rest of my family … probably 7 years ago. It crept back up over the next 5 years, plus a pregnancy, and I was heavier than ever; this time I'm trying to change my overall lifestyle so that I can sit down to a meal with my family and we are all enjoying healthy and yummy foods. It's slower, but I think it'll last longer, and it's teaching my kids a better attitude about food than "being on a diet" would)0 -
Thanks guys, I totally get what you are all saying - I definitely need to look at this as a life style change, rather than a diet. I think it's kind of easier for my hubby to understand why I'm not eating something if I explain that though, because for him what he eats doesn't actually make a difference.
I couldn't have the pasta because I knew by adding the pasta and chicken to it, that I would have gone well over for the day. I didn't want to cut out the chicken as everything else had been vegetarian for the past 2 days and I'm anaemic so I need meat where I can (Don't worry - I'm taking prescribed iron pills!).
I'll definitely be planning in advance what we are having tonight, and thankfully don't have to worry about having enough leftovers for the hubby to take the work as that huge pasta gave him enough for 3 days haha!0 -
How many calories are you on?0

MFP has put me on 1220. I know I can have more if I exercise, which I'm adding into the routine once I have done 7 days of successfully staying within the calorie range.0

Take a look at this if you like. It'll tell you how much you should be on but you'll have to adjust it once you start up the exercise.

MFP set me to 1300 when I started, and then my friends and husband told me I either had to stay fat or eat more or stop leaving my bedroom cause I was losing my mind.
I've since opted to eat more. Or try to, most days.0 -
I do not know because luckily I am not on a diet. I eat anything I want in MODERATION and make it fit my macros. You might want to increase your intake. Good luck!!0
