How do I log this for exercise?

I spent a few hours yesterday putting hay in our barn (if anyone has a farm, they know how physical it is). It involves lots of lifting, throwing, raking, and walking with square hay bales under the hot sun. It was 36C here which is a really HOT day in my area, so I sweat like crazy. Normally I would not count any farmwork in my exercise since it's done regularly, but this is a once-a-year occurance, and I know I worked my *kitten* off, haha. Does anyone know how I should add this in for exercise? Is it strength training with cardio? Suggestions please and thank you

My bf uses "moving house hold objects" exercise in Strength Training, when he has a day that he has to move boxes around in the warehouse where he works. I think it's a little exaggerated so he usually logs half the amount of actual time he spent doing it.
That's probably the closest you're going to find to moving hay.0 -

Why don't you log it as a few separate things. Aren't hay bales 50 to 70 lbs? I'd log that part as weight lifting. And then log the walking. I'm sure you weren't jogging but still several hours of 2.0 mph is pretty good! Maybe for raking and throwing, use the "Rowboat" or even crunches?
Alternatively, think of an exercise that you do that you feel is about comparable. For example, have you done P90X? Is that the same overall body work out? How many calories to do you burn on P90X? It would be not quite the same but it's closer than just guessing or not even logging it!0 -

I bought a polar f7 monitor to wear when doing strenuous chores and exercises so I can actually see the number of calories burned. I was overestimating some things and underestimating others but now have a pretty accurate device. It is also good for walking, swimming, etc.0

You could probably using something like circuit training, which is a combination of strength and cardio. Plus I find that one is pretty accurate with calorie calculations while, as someone else pointed out, many listings overestimate. However, don't feel like whatever you earn gives you a license to go crazy (because I'm sure you'll get a lot from doing that kind of work for hours), eat some and if you're still hungry, eat a bit more. In fact, you may want to save some to "roll-over" to the next day. If you're like me (and several others I know) you may be more hungry the day after putting in hard work like that.
FYI, sweating is not necessarily a sign of effort. Some people sweat a lot, some people don't. It is a good sign that you need lots of fluids though so get that water in and then some! Good luck with the work tonight!0 -
