Vitamins Definitely make a difference!

I never realized how much of a difference vitamins can make. I have been taking a few different vitamins. The main vitamin I take is a multivitamin from Optimum Nutrition called Opti-men. I just ran out a few days ago and the next day of not taking them I totally felt different. My work outs felt more sluggish and my energy levels were not the same.

Has anyone else experienced this before??? What vitamins do you take and what do you recommend taking?

Other vitamins I take:
-Fish oil
-vitamin B complex
-Raspberry Ketones
-Vitamin C

Ugh I've tried taking a multi vitamin before and I felt horrible! So I'm jealous of you; it made my stomach cramp and I kept feeling like I had to run to the bathroom.. No clue why.

That's odd. Have you tried taking a lower dosage. Optimum Nutrition makes a multivitamin for women as well, named opti-women. Instead of taking 2 at a time try one or a half to start with.

Probably from all the fillers that were in them. I used to take women's one a day weight smart (or whatever it was called) and regardless if I took it with food it always made me feel sick and crampy. You need to find some that have zero crap fillers in them which means going to a health food store which will cost a bit more.

With that said I take a lot of vitamins and I am hardly sick and if I DO get sick the duration is really short.
  • You could try Glutamine - it makes a big difference as far as regulating your body and recovery. I hated taking just a vitamin so I found a chewable form of glutamine that tastes good...look em up they are called PowerChews Glutamine.

Very true. A lot of vitamins do have fillers in them. That why I buy from optimum Nutrition. They have the best ratings for multivitamins and plus you can get a 2 month supply on amazon for like $20!

With me, I would get ill after taking a multivitamin. I read lots of reviews that it could be because of the iron in them. All I know is I would feel like throwing up and sick anywhere between 2 hours to the whole day.

I tried a variety of multivitamins from One-A-Day, Centrum, Nature Made and a couple other brands I can't remember off the top of my head.

Now I take the Flinstones Vita-Gummies along with a few other supplements (like Calcium w/ D3, Triple Omega, Biotin, Super Complex B)

I would suspect iron. I would get an iron-free formula and then if you want or need to take iron, take it as a separate slow-release form. With food.

    AGREED!
    they can change your life!
    for the better.
  • If you're feeling sick after taking vitamins you may need to take them with food. The same thing happened to me when I started taking vitamins and now that I eat a meal with them in the morning I feel 100% better!

I honestly can't tell the difference when I take it and when I don't. I use a woman generic multivitamin.

But yeah, absolutely take it with food, a couple months ago I had one with nothing in the morning and ended up puking.

99% it's from the iron. Try one without iron, like a prenatal vitamin. Iron upsets a lot of people's GIs, myself included.

Depends on the multi they're taking.

I'd say that 99% of the time it's the fillers.

I bought the Optimum Nutrition Opti-Women. Just before starting to take them, I researched a bit and found there's Dong Quai as an ingredient! It's suspected to interfere with birth control pills (not proven exactly) so I hesitate to take them and now they are just sitting there..:grumble:

you have to take the vitamins/multivitamins with food that has fat in it. some vitamins are only soluble in the body in the presence of fat, so if you take them on an empty stomach, some of the vitamins will pass right through you.

Some multivitamins make me nauseated even with food. Been taking Nature's Plus Ultra II with a meal for years, and it's all positive.

    I've been slacking lately...
But typically I take potassium, fish oil, B-complex, vitamin D, and a joint supplement.

    ALSO!
For those that feel sick when they take vitamins, I just recently realized I don't have any side effects when I take gel caps.

I dont use supplements or vitamins unless suggested by my GP. I am never sick or run down and I dont eat clean.

From the Mayo Clinic - "Over the past few years, studies have found that vitamins previously considered beneficial may not be helping — and may be causing harm. The March issue of Mayo Clinic Health Letter provides an overview on the latest advice about taking vitamins.

The newest research is from the Iowa Women's Health Study. This 20-year study of 38,000 women age 55 and older showed that taking a multivitamin appears to increase the risk of premature death. Evidence from this study and others suggest there is no need to take most supplements for general health or disease prevention. Exceptions appear to be calcium supplements and vitamin D for bone health."

That happens to me as well. I just take the Flinstone's Complete vitamins that I give to my kids. My stomach can't handle the adult multivitamins for some reason.

I guess if you don't eat properly you may need to supplement. Otherwise, it's just another marketing scheme.
