calculate before or after cooking?

howdy fitnesspalz,

when pasta has been cooked, it's obviously absorbed a lot of water which is going to increase its weight. Different pastas are going to absorb more water than others (angel hair pasta is going to be lighter than penne).

Therefore the question is...

2 oz. (56g) or 200 cals. are to be logged before or after cooking?

I log everything before it is cooked.

Before cooking. Some packages include that discretion, I had been confused too :)
I weigh it and cook in a seperate pot. Another good rule of thumb about cooking pasta- if you are ever without a scale- 2 oz of pasta is about the diameter of a nickel. 1 oz of pasta is about the diameter of a dime. I use this method before I place it on my scale, and get the right number everytime!

I am also doing Herbal Magic and when it comes to eating starches like pasta they always have us measure it out after it is cooked. So one starch would be 1/2 cooked pasta (which as you can see is not very much).
