Is there any exercises I can do that will help me. Maybe lifting weights or buying a exercise machine that you can use like a stationary bicycle that just sets on the floor. Thanks

Jillian Michaels highly recommends doing various punches for getting cardio in when you're dealing with lower body immobility for any reason.0

Hi there,
my mum goes to a "stretch" class that is all chair based (and works too as I've gone with her before). If there's nothing like that near you, there are some online resources too, ie:

http://ezinearticles.com/?A-Simple-Wheelchair-Exercise-to-Help-Your-Body-and-Mind-Get-Fit---Nurses-Guide&id=1774252
as a start... just go into a search engine such as Google and type in "wheelchair exercises" you are very likely to find some that suit... or on You Tube cos at least there are videos to support you.

You can buy free weights, maybe 3 lbs and 5 lbs to start with and do some shoulder, biceps and triceps excercises in addition to the punches suggested below.
If you have access to a gym, and some way to get there, you can also use some of their stationary equipment and/or ask an instructor or trainer for suggestions and guidance.
I congratulate you for taking charge of your life and fitness by not letting physical hurdles get in your way. Good luck!0 -
Thankyou for all your suggestions, I will try them all.0

some gyms offer actual water exercise classes for people with limited mobility. perhaps there is one offered near where you live. colleges that train/certify physical therapists may also know of a referral. good luck!0

I think it's important to know why you're wheelchair bound. Is there any control over the legs? Is it a strength issue? A temporary injury? Can you stand for any length of time?0

I ran acorss this the other day, maybe it would help. I thought about it for the days my back bothers me. Resistance band exercises in the seated position for rehab and elderly.
