uncooked vs cooked (grams)

I recently got a digital scale to weigh all of my foods instead of using measuring cups and spoons. One thing I'm confused about is when it comes to foods that need to be cooked. The serving size weights listed on the packages are only given for the uncooked weight and not the cooked weight. For example, last night I cooked vegetables in a steamer bag. The serving size was 1 cup frozen (108g) or 1/2 cup cooked but it did not list the grams for once it is cooked. Is it safe to assume that the cooked weight is half of the uncooked weight since it went from 1 c to 1/2 c? Same thing with tonight's dinner. I plan to make brown rice with my chicken but the rice is given in uncooked weight rather than once it's cooked. Only this time it is reversed. 1 serving is 1/2 c uncooked (43g) or 1 cup cooked. Is it safe to assume that once it's cooked 1 serving will weigh 86 grams? Please help with this. Is there a simpler way to do it?

It all depends on water content. Rice will absorb more water depending on the length of cooking time so it doesn't mean the final result will be twice as much. Also, different rices weigh different amounts. For those things I would personally just use a measuring cup. Veggies don't have many calories in them. For rice, if you really want to be accurate.. weigh out a serving uncooked and cook it separately from the rest.0

I thought of measuring out my own portions but it's tough because the rice I use is boil in a bag. I don't feel like spending 40 minutes trying to get brown rice to cook properly so I use to quicker method. Also, my husband counts calories too so I can't exactly make 3 separate things of rice (me, husband, kids). All that is too complicated and too much work for what it's worth..0

Cooked veggies are more dense than raw or frozen. The calories for 1/2 cup would be the same as for 1 cup frozen.0
