Strange phenomenon while running...

I recently started running in my neighborhood only wearing a sports bra and shorts...I used to wear a t-shirt and shorts, but it's too hot for that.
There are guys who run shirtless.
But why am I getting ridiculed for running in my shorts and sports bra? I don't understand???
It isn't a big deal, but I've been told by several people to "put some clothes on."
Like really. Someone please explain why this is okay?
Also, I'm NOT "putting some clothes on" because I think I'm adequately covered.
Plus, why should I feel ashamed of my body??
I don't understand why this is okay.

Who tells you to put clothes on? People passing by or people you know that see you work out like that?
  • people in my neighborhood. like they'll catch me later when I'm walking my dog and be like "excuse me, but you really should put some clothes on when you run around here"

DH might be a tad upset/jealous if i ran in a sports bra, anyone else can eat their comments...

mind, i have been thinking about running in bra & shorts, and whilst i am not ready to do that to the world yet, there's a difference between sports bras, and sports BRAs. - you wouldnt catch me in a white or see through one...
  • mine are either black or the same teal color as my shorts. I didn't even bother to buy a white one.

Hmm do you live in an area where people would do that lol? They are probably just jealous that they don't feel confident enough to do that themselves!

As in like conservative, uppity, etc?

I would just ignore them! Its hot outside, and I personally can't wait until I have the confidence to run in just my sports bra and shorts :)

maybe your boobies are flopping? I see slender female runners in sports bras and shorts all of the time. Nobody seems to bother them, where do you live?
  • And yet Page three still exists...women aren't able to run in a sports bra without being told off yet naked women adorn the pages of the 'newspornpaper'....

I'd say thanks but I'll continue to run the way I want. Don't look if you don't like it.

There are some really rude people in your area then. It's fine, just keep doing it! It's the summer, let them deal with it.

I live in a nicer neighborhood...mostly nice people...except ah yes, sometimes i forget I live in the bible belt. I don't really understand the bible belt because I'm not from here...I'm from NYC...so that's probably why "put some clothes on even though it's 95+ outside" is a foreign concept to me. but you'd think no one would really pay attention. I mean, I'm exercising. I'm not walking around like "WOW LOOK AT ME SO HOT DAMN U JELLY???" I'm sweating my *kitten* off.

Nothing wrong with what you're wearing. People need to mind their own business more!

I too am from NY... i am going to say because it's bible belt and "not nice" to be seen in undergarments.

However, I would simply tell them "I am adequately covered and it's hot out - I'm not running in a string bikini"

Unless there is some weird city code that states running in a sports bra and shorts in unacceptable...

Those people may be paying attention because they have teenage sons at home oogling over you

that is the ONLY thing I can think of.

Well duh, you're a woman and you're supposed to be ashamed of your lady bits, haven't we taught you that yet? Just like how we guys can have shirtless profile pics without problem but if a woman shows a bit of cleavage she'll get reported and put on picture probation.

I think it has a lot to do with where you live. People in the mid-west are so uptight and aren't used to seeing people run in appropriate athletic gear, but if you go to larger cities or the coast, it's so common. Here in the mid-west where I live the running paths are mostly deserted, or the people on them are just walking.

They're just super jelly. Next time someone tells you that, politely asking why and making a point like "well I could be tanning on my front yard in a bikini..." would probably make them feel awkward enough to leave you alone next time. There's nothing wrong with a sports bra and shorts. Females of all ages do that in my neighborhood (northern VA).
