'Nother Jillian Michaels Question.

So. After I complete this month of Chalene Extreme, I was thinking of moving on to 30 Day Shred.

Which do you feel would be more beneficial...doing a ton of JM exercises (Killer Buns and Thighs, 6 Week Six Pack, Kickbox Fast Fix, etc etc), for a month or doing the 30DS with added cardio each day (plan to start C25K, Zumba exercise DVD rotation, and Just Dance 3 for the shiggles)?

Discuss.

Honestly, I would transition into a lifting program with some cardio (of your choice). 30DS is more of a cardio program than a lifting program so if you wanted that could be your cardio on top of your lifting but I like your C25K, Zumba idea better. Having done 30DS then CE, I think you'll be disappointed going from CE to 30DS. 30DS just isn't very challenging after doing CE. IMO.

I thought 30DS was a bunch of body weight exercise as well. So it's not exactly lifting, but you're still lifting and lowering your body weight...

True but you're doing it quickly making it more of an endurance/cardio program. Nothing like the controlled heavier lifts you're use to in CE.

    That's true. Hmm.

I guess I'm not sure what to do from here. I should add that I haven't been using free weights. I have resistance bands. Do I think I could be getting better results with the free weights? Absolutely. Do I want them? Most definitely. It's the cost. I didn't even buy CHLX...let's just say it came to me.

I like Jillian Michaels, I love to lift too (well I did pre babe)... It really leans me out though personally. No it's not too challenging I use 8lb weights to make it burn a little better... I say do it. After this go 'round I'm doing the ripped in 30 she has too. I love her, I owe her the 25lbs I lost before Ava cam to be... And the DVDs are cheap. ;)

LOL! I completely get it. I've slowly put together a great gym through garage sales, clearance sales and just being in the right place at the right time! Absolutely nothing wrong with body weight exercises but with JM, she rushes you through them and her form is just awful, not to mention her voice is irritating. It got to the point, I turned her down and turned up the music. Any workout is better than no workout so I say if that's what you have then go for it, I would add in the C25K and some Zumba for cross training also would add in more body weight exercises than what is in 30DS. If you can look into "You Are Your Own Gym". I have not followed it but have heard great things about it. Good luck in whatever you decide!

    Is that a book? :) *google'd*

WOW. Had no idea about all of that!!

Most definitely need to get into this. Thanks for the tips!

I shall also scour Craigslist when I finally get a little extra money. I've been really considering slapping down my credit card on either a gym membership or a set of adjustable weights...but I still have to pay for school this coming semester. Grrr.

If you want to try Jillian, do her "Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism"....that's a good workout! cardio, plus strength, and you don't use weights. Her 6 week 6 pack is good too. I just got her "No More Trouble Zones" and can't wait to try it!

That b**** is so chatty during the 30DS that I turned the volume off. And ditto on the rushing part.

    I recommend for you:

30 Day Shred (but you will need some dumb bells, if you can only buy one set I'd say 5 pounds. This may sound light but you do a lot of reps with them). (Also, some exercise I only use 3 pounds and it hurt! And that is after I became fit)

and if you feel like 30DS is not enough for one day, then follow up with kickbox fast fix. I did this for one month:

    30DS Level 1 + KBFF WO1
    30DS Level 1 + KBFF WO2
    30DS Level 1+ KBFF WO 3
    30DS Level 1 + KBFF WO1..... repeat for 10 days on level 1, 10 days on level 2, and 10 days on level 3.

No More Trouble Zones is great but you will need different weight dumb bells and no way could I do it 30 days in a row.

And of course, the absolute GREATEST Jillian workout is Body Revolution, but it is a bit of a money investment. If you can swing it THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU! as it is a lovely balance of strength training and cardio. But it is $120. And you will still need some dumbells for it. For my first round I used 3, 5 & 8's. And now in my second round I'm using 5,8,10 and 15's.

I have read from some of the producers of her videos the reason she talks so much is because she can't complete her own workouts as she doesn't concentrate much on cardio in her "own" workouts. She concentrates on heavy lifting. Her body did not come from doing the workouts she sells. So she'll do a bit of the workout then walk around and talk to catch her breath. Idk how much of this is true but that's what they've said and it makes sense. I'm not bashing anyone that does them, I own 3 of her videos and they were a great starting point for me and as I progressed and researched/learned more I found that she and Bob really aren't what they portray themselves to be.

It's on clearance at Target, and I love it, too! Definitely a muscle builder, and you can always up the weights.

I have this, too. Again...ain't gonna say how I AQUIRED it, but I have it.

I have P90X, Insanity, and T25 as well.

I just need the equipment. *pouts* I figured I could swing for some 5's and 8's, as I already have these dinky little 3's, lol.

I figured that doing 30DS would be a little 'jump start' before I moved on to another program.

All of these are great tips. Much appreciated! Thank you all.

Well, she is on another level than most of us, so it would make sense that she do different workouts. Plus just sounds like gossip to me. Most of her workouts are designed to get the average person in great shape in a short amount of time. So many people rave about her because she delivers results. And me personally, I would rather have her showing form through the other athletes on her DVD's and have her continue to say the funny and motivating things that help me stick with exercising everday ( as opposed to shaun T of Insanity for example, that did all the exercises but hearing him pant and not say much else was not a motivator foe me).

Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Thought I was the only one. I bought a ton of JM DVDs on super good sale because my sister in law highly recommended the 30 day shred. I ended up giving them all to her after only doing one video twice. Turns out I cannot stand her. I would finish the workout wanting to kick her. I know some people love her, but she is super annoying to me. But I couldn't do the workouts with the volume off because then I couldn't follow along with the exercises. Plus, mostly just watching her is annoying to me. Lol.

I would HIGHLY recommend doing one of her workouts that's on YouTube before purchasing her DVDs, just in case she annoys you,too :-)

I just got the ZWOW DVDs (cardio, strength, and yoga) and I like Zuzka much better. She is a crazy mofo, and I can't do all of the exercises, but she is too busy actually doing her workouts (and struggling sometimes too, which I find very encouraging) to really talk much. But, you can find her workouts too on YouTube so you can decide if she makes you want to punch a kitten after five minutes.

I like 30DS and started with 3lb then moved up to 5lb for some of the exercises and now will move to 8lb (day 27), I plan on starting it at day 1 again and going through it but only doing the non modified moves if I can and as mentioned previous moving up to 8lb weights.

After the 2nd round tho I am going to ripped in 30 or lifting again...

Personal choice but I haven't worked out in years and this was a great start for me.

PS keep in mind in the first 20 days I lost 8 1/2 inches in total...

I finished the 90 days of ChaLean Extreme, and wanted to try something different so I chose Jillian Michael's Body Revolution. I did that for a month and was not happy with any results I got. NOT NEAR what I got with CLE so I scrapped JM's and started CLE all over again.

No way you will get results doing 30D Shred after CX....It is just not in the same class - 30Day shred is a good beginner dvd that can take you a ways - but it's not by any means lifting.....

If you have P90X, I would suggest doing that...You use lighter weights than in CX, and it has cardio built in...I completed P90 X after CX, and am doing a CX/kettlebell/running hybrid now....
