My first post.. I have a bmr/tdee question

Hey everyone!

I am at my heaviest weight and need to make some huge changes in my life. Eating myfitnesspals recommendation of 1300 calories has been hard to maintain. So I did some searching and started reading about bmr and tdee. I'm just a little confused about the number of calories I should actually be eating.

Fat2fit calculated a BMR of 1949 and that I should be eating 2300 calories for light activity or 2000 for no activity. It just seems so high!

Another article I read said multiply bmr x activity=tdee

1949 x 1.2 = 2338 then multiply by .2 for weight loss = 467
2338-467 = 1871. Which puts me below my bmr number.

What am I doing wrong?

BMR is the amount of calories your body burns just by "living" and TDEE is a combination of your BMR (total calories burned daily) and the calories you burn based on physical activity (lightly active, moderately active..) so fat2fit says you need to eat 2,300 calories based on your physical activity (this is for weight maintenance) but you need to create a calorie deficit to lose weight. You could subtract 500 (deficit) calories from 2,300 and you'll get 1,800 calories, the problem is that it is lower than your BMR, and you need to meet those requirement so that your body functions properly so you the best thing to do is to make a deficit of 300 calories (2,000). yes, you'll still lose weight.
