Trying hard to resist the urge...
...to virtually smack a friend of mine upside the head after reading her latest live journal entry.
She gushes about this macaroni and cheese dish that just reading the recipe I think made me gain a zillion pounds - Ritz crackers, sour cream, ranch dressing, a ton of cheese...etc. No nutritional info was provided with the recipe on the site she linked to - probably because they know it's a ridiculously high calorie and fat count (the recipe most definitely did NOT say anything was "light" or "low fat"). Then she talks about making it again but with MORE ranch dressing and cheese!
And a paragraph later she's linking to a picture of a dress she's thinking about getting but fussing that the dress has pockets on the front which "just go ahead and point to my fat stomach why don't you?"!
She's always fussing about her weight - though honestly I don't think she's fat. She's definitely smaller than I am. And then she goes and makes recipes like that one? And wants to add some of the most fattening stuff to it??
I always end up biting my tongue (or fingers in this case) whenever she goes on about it, but with this latest entry, I'm having a really hard time not saying anything. I don't WANT to until I know for sure it won't be sarcastic, which right now it would be - because all I can think is "You know...if you cut back on the mac and cheese there might not be a stomach to point to."
Do you guys go through this?

Well, I have a sister who's tiny--she got my parents' metabolism, I got shafted there--but luckily she isn't freaked out about her weight. Still, it's frustrating when I pay such close attention to what I eat and it seems like everyone else could care less. It does suck when they're like "Oh, I need to go on a diet, hahahaha" in that almost-sarcastic tone. Grr.
I usually bite my tongue in circumstances like this, but maybe you could send her a really tasty, healthy recipe--there's a lot that you can do with light products, and personally, I'd prefer a panko-crumb topping to a ritz cracker topping (crispier, less greasy). If you have to, mimic the sarcasm (you can always blame the internet if she takes it too personally... most e-mails don't read the same way they were intended to).

My motto is "Live and let live." Unless your friend is asking for your opinion or advice, I think you should continue to bite your tongue. If you keep doing well with your eating, you'll be a good role model, and I wouldn't be surprised if she comes to you for suggestions then. :flowerforyou:0

Yeah, I'm more of the "live and let live" variety - it just gets hard when it seems like so many of her entries are about food and then complaining about her weight. She's not tiny, but she seems to be healthy - though I should know that your body frame and how you carry yourself can hide a lot, because no one believes I weigh what I do.
I'm thinking I might combine the "live my life" and the "provide a recipe" by linking to the Healthy Girl chicken cordon bleu recipe I used the other night that was DELICIOUS! Maybe at some point I can even find a "healthy" mac and cheese recipe!0 -

Try this one. You can alter the ricotta cheese to be cottage cheese, low fat if you wish, and you can also alter every other ingredient to be less in calories.
As is, per serving, 395 calories. Not great, but if you use whole wheat noodles, etc, it'll be healthier, and nice on special occasions.

Me "Oh my goodness, I had a Lean Cuisine for lunch that was meatloaf and mashed potatoes and the potatoes were the BOMB! They were awesome".
*Tasha* "Really? I had smothered country fried steak with mashed potatoes and fried okra. Then I had chocolate ice cream."
Me "Wow, you are living my dreams, but in those dreams, I am fat".
Tasha "Yeah, I would rather be fat, I guess."
