fruit sugar question

Can fruit really make you fat? I am always over on my sugars because of my fruit smoothies.
Just a heads up, I have not been logging much lately so looking at my diary won't be much help .

I'm curious about this too.
If I eat 1/2 of a peach for breakfast, would the natural sugars in the fruit actually be doing more harm than good?0 -

Fruit wont make you fat, smoothies sure could.
Nature works pretty well. To get sugar, you have to work for it. Fruit has fiber in it. You can't eat it that fast or that much (or afford it for most of us lol!!!) to get fat on.
Smoothies are sorta processing out mother natures "brakes" on eating too much sugar.
At least that's my take.
Example---a normal human couldnt eat enough oranges to get fat on right? Apples? Peaches? Not likely.
But the average person sure as hell gets fat on orange juice, apple juice, etc if you just drank it all the time which is easy to do.0 -

I eat a lot of apples during the day ( about 3-5) and they have sooo much sugar but I don't think you can get fat from it!!0

I feel like I am in the same boat! If I have a small apple and a half cup of blueberries (which is a staple of my daily eating) I am already over for the day! It's frustrating.0

MFP sets the sugar low already. I try not to look at mine, considering one apple can put me over. With that being said, I try to eat fruits at the beginning of the day (so my body can use them for fuel for the day) or right before a workout.0

I eat a ton of fruit. It seems like everyone thinks the sugar in fruit is the equivalent to a snickers bar... This is an extremely controversial topic on myfitnesspal, but we won't get into that.
The sugar in fruit won't make you fat. Are the rising obesity rates in North America a result of people eating too much fruit? Probably not.0 -

I eat tons of fruit and have had lots of weight loss success. I don't count sugar from fruit.0

Common sense is key here. Fruit is healthy, along with the sugars that come with it. It would be unhealthy if you were going over your sugar by eating foods that are junk food, candies for example. I go over my sugar with fruits a-lot of the time, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless your doctor or whatever says that you need to watch your sugar intake due to health requirements. I focus on fat, and calories more than anything.

I prefer the complex carbohydrates from cookes over the simple sugars in fruit0

Unless your doctor told you to watch your sugar intake, there's no reason to watch your sugars. While you can get fat on fruit, it's pretty difficult. Fruit sugars "count," but sugar itself isn't an indicator of a food's nutrition. The reason we get fat from eating sugary foods isn't because of the sugar itself, but because sugar is usually added in large quantities to foods and increases calories. Even though they're full of sugars, fruit is usually fairly low in calorie and high in nutrients and worth what calories you get.
In short, don't sweat the fruit sugars. My daily half a grapefruit puts me over daily, still down 11lbs in 2 months.0 -
I don't track sugar only my main macros and it hasn't hindered my weight loss........ Best of Luck0
