I Lost my Daughter (And Other Victories)

Last night, my 10-year-old daughter fell asleep in front of the TV. I had to pick her up and carry her to bed. Even though she's a tiny little thing, she's heavy when she's asleep. At her last doctors visit, she weighed 62 pounds.

I have been on this expedition now for 8 long months--since Thanksgiving weekend in fact. I started out weighing just over 300 pounds and I have worked hard at managing my diet. Now, I weigh 241. That's a 62 pound loss. I have lost my daughter.

Now at work, my team is pretty unobservant. A few people on other teams have asked me whether I'm losing weight, but my closest associates have been silent, until this Thursday, when two of them asked if I had lost weight. Well FINALLY! Thanks, guys.

Finally, I have been reaching farther and farther back in the closet to find clothes that fit. Always thinking I don't want to buy anything new because I have a lot more to lose and I don't want to buy new clothes that won't fit in just a few months. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, I seem to be running out of old "skinny" clothes. I may just have to break out the wallet. Go figure!

Thanks for listening, and Happy Friday!

I loved this post! Good for your and congratulations on your hard work. I've lost my own daughter (she's nine, about 60 pounds), and can appreciate your desire to get healthier for her and the rest of your family. It certainly rings true with me. :)

In the least, you could have said, I lost the equivalent of my daughter (or something to that effect). I am afraid that there may be people in here, who were actually struck by real life tragedies and horrors . . . and this subject line will just be a rekindling of anguish for them.

That being said, I laud your efforts, and congratulations!

Amazing! Can't wait until I "lose" my son :)

Sometimes when he falls asleep beside me and I pick him up and carry him to his bed I think .... I can't beleive I am carrying all this with me ALL THE TIME ..... not having to do that would be awesome!
